Default new system big res how bad is tap water?

K i'm not all that new to the grow but i just got a new system and it has a huge res.the only way I can fill it is tap water.I need to know how bad it is for the ladies? can I use tap water then ph down it then keep monitoring and make little adjustments untill it levels out without killing the plants? or is it best to just keep 100 gallons sitting around in culligans at all time?

thanks for your time guys

T.

p.s. sorry for not being around much lately i've been busy having baby

any tap water used needs to sit out at least 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate.

Hey T&T,I use tap water all the time. But I filter my water cause it's hard and alot of stuff in it.Take a ppm reading of your water after the chlorine has evaporate and what it is.My water comes out of the tap at 490 to 700 ppm's.I filter it and the ppm's drop to 240 to 260 ppm's.I mix my nutr and bubble them for a day or 2 before res change. This way I can stablize them and get it PH to 5.6.{hydro}.Here's a pix of the filters I use.You can get them at home depot or lowes and build it like I did.I change the filter 3 times a year and that cost about $40.00.If you got have hard water and you are using the GH 3-part get the hard water mirco. The plants love it.Need more you know where I'am at.Peace

P.S. my pump will probably run only once a day so is it nesasary to run bubblers in each water jug and pre mix the nuts in each jug before I put it in the res? the res will have 2 big air stones and mixed propperly right after a flooding so it will be setteling into the table for 12-18 hours before the next feeding

thanks again

T.

you might consider a rain barrel or something similar... a big plastic drum you can put under a downspout to collect water. You can fill them with hose water also and let them sit out, bubble them and all that. I have a friend who does this but the thing you have to watch out for is bugs getting in the water, easily treated with some stuff from the hydro store though. Most of these barrels come with a spicket on the bottom you can connect a hose too also, just stick hose in window and fill res, or you could use buckets I suppose.

I've been thinking of getting a filter that connects right to the faucet, don't know how good they are but my grow is really small so it should be ok i guess.

Hey, Congratulations on the baby... Boy or Girl ???

PS: Leave the air stones in the water running, with that large a res, you'll be doing a lot of premixing, peace.

Could you set a rubbermaid inside the existing rez to make it more user friendly? Or maybe displace water in rez with something, capped water jugs perhaps to decrease the amount you have to use at once.

oh dear god... I have two boys and I thank the good lord for that. I don't have the mentality for girls I think... too aggressive, and I absolutely hate whining. I would hate to find that many places to hide bodies as well. Just make sure the boys know you are not afraid to go "back" to jail. LOL
