my nugs taste like dirt...

so whats the possible culprit?

I fed with plain water the last 2 weeks. Plants are in potting mix from home depot and a splash of bone meal. during those last 2 weeks, I flushed the soil several times with 3+ gallons per flush. Fed with FF Big Bloom from week 2 flower to week 6 flower.

drying was 5 days hanging in a box at 40% rh with temps from 58 at night and 76 in the day. curing has been in glass jars for the last 9 days.

the trichs are covering the buds and are cloudy. The scent has changed from a fresh cut grass chorophylly aroma to a nonscent or light hay. Fingertips gets sticky immediately when breaking open the nugs to see the snow inside and smell the light piney citrusness.

when smoking through my favorite water pipe i taste dirt, even though the effect is powerful the taste leaves something to desire.

any ideas?

I would guess that the dry and cure were too quick and the chlorophyll didn't have time to degade....If I were I a tight schedule and didn't want to cure longer...I would suggest water curring...you can still do it with the budz you have....submerged for seven days (change water daily) then dry as quick as possible w/o temps high enough to evap any cannabinoids..oh yeah (this is kind of like checking to see you pluged things in if they don't work) did you clean the pipe and change the screen....they get filled with tars...soak 'em in grain alcohol to get them store bought clean...

Since Im not on a tight schedule, if I continue curing in the jars for another couple weeks or so (checking daily of course) should I expect the degradation to happen?

I tried water curing previously and didnt care for the results.

Also, I have heard if you feed the plants molasses or some kind of sweetening agent (corn syrup, SWEET, etc)even in the last week, you also have sweeter buds. This might help next time.

Ive seen mention of molasses before and hadnt made the connection to taste I was just thinking it was for weight. Ill have to do a bit of homework since I have a couple weeks before flushing starts on round 2. Thanks to ya both.

After hanging em for 5 days, I would have gone to paper bags for 3 weeks, than onto glass jars. Glass jars are typically a much slower cure than the paper bags.

Just open the glass jars daily and be very patient, the taste will mature.

Well thats what I was hoping, just to cure 'em longer.

Thanks for the 411, and Ill try the paper bags next time. I agree, too much heat and bad timing for me to harvest because of it. I lost about 7g to mold on one main cola.

here's something that works out really fast so you can do it anytime before you smoke some quality herb

if you get rubing alchohol and rock salt and put them both in your piece and then vigoursly shake for 30 seconds, it should be just like it was new- unless you haven't cleaned in a while then you might need to do another rinse, but really ussually about 80% of the crapis gone whithin the first 30 seconds!

I belive this is pretty much the ingredients of 420 cleaner, but if you really want to copy them, use mint flavored rubbing alcohol.


as far as your buds, have they been in a warm place since you put them in a jar? i've noticed that even if I jar something, and if it gets too hot where I see humidity inside the jar (after it's been cured and is in a smoking jar) i know the smell is gonna be gone, just make sure to keep it somewhere dark and cool and open it up when you see humidity inside to let it air out, even after "loosing" the aroma, ie. after the buds were cured and perfect I put them in a jar to smoke, well at night I went to sleep and left the jar outside in the my living room, well the sun was shining on it and when i got to it seemed like all the aroma was on the glass ( humidity) I opened up the jar and it smelled like...blah weed haha not like fruity loops or grapes, like it should have! damn i though so I put that jar away in a cool dark place and it came back slow and not as DANK but it will come back if you let it, just put it in a cool dark place and open it every other day ( opening everyday wont help as you prob already let out alot of the moisture)
