Default First grow questions

Ok so I am starting my first grow and I am planning to use a single rubbermaid tub. I have a 35 gal Rubbermaid Roughneck tub. Its one of those that has the latching handles on the side, the top seems flimsy to me should I be concerned?

I've only seen designs using 2 tubs, but I need to be stealthier so I am using 1 tub. Anyone with any tips?

use CFLs, make sure to keep adequate ventilation and temperature. top off and/or supercrop the plants to keep them low for sea of green. pruning is important in a small grow. good soil/nutes, good light, good care, good crop.

I found a place that's close that sells foxfarm organic soil ocean forest that I am going to mix perlite with. The tub is only 19.7 inches tall. What kind of pots should I use?

EDIT: I was thinking of doing 6 cfls like in the 2 tub setup but would using 20watt tubes be better?

20 Watt tubes would be the way to go, no question, as it will allow you more plant height. In fact you might want to supplement the tubes with a cfl sitting lower in the tob to support the lower parts of the plants.

Are you going to be growing from clones, or from seed?

NOT to sound pushy but try some really good soil mis like this, 2 parts hydronix (walmart 40 pound bag) $1.88 1 part MG organic mix maybe $5, and 4 parts perlite 5quarts for like $4. good stuff, can add a LITTLE bone meal while vegging and Bat Guano while Flowering..

Peace,

Sock

I know you can find bone meal at the wal mart, home depot or lowes. Not sure on the bat guano.. you may find it there as well. If not check a local garden center.

I checked two different walmarts, home depot, and lowes and could not find any hydronix. Bone meal and miracle grow were at all places. So I ended up going with the foxfarm ocean forest as well as grabbed some big grow and big bloom ferts. Also I've decided to gow with the two rubbermaid set up with smaller tubs (18gal) as they are much thicker plastic as well as allowing more vertical space. I've attached two 3-light fixtures to one tub and wired them up. I have four 26watt daylight (6500K) and two 26watt soft white bulbs installed right now, and will be swapping the order around when I flip the lights (4 soft, 2 daylight). Anyways I have started to germinate 10 seeds with the paper towel in plastic bag method. I am shooting for 6 to germinate and then I want to keep 2 females. So for pot sizes should I start with 4 inch pots then go to 1 or 2 gallon pots for the final 2 plants? I was thnking of doing LST is that going to be difficult to transplant?

Budie..slow down a bit and take a deep breath...
Your babies will not need all that light right off, as they will only be able to benefit from the light of a couple of the lamps until they get a couple inches tall.

The pot sizes sound fine. But were it me I would go with 3" starter pots till they get well rooted, then move up to 6", then finally to maybe 8". Keep in mind that 2 gal pot will take up a chunk of that height you just bought yourself..

What are you doing for ventilation of the tubs?
