Default Figuring out pot size by dimentions

A question has been brought up recently inquering if there was a way to figure out how many gallons a container can hold by its dimensions. Seeing as some people fabricate their own or use makeshift containers, its important to know how much medium your square containers can hold. Yes there is a way...

231 cubic inches equates to 1 gallon. so multiply all the dimensions of the container and thats how many cubic inches of volume. Divide that number by 231 (the cubic inches for 1 gallon), and the answer is how many gallons.

ie 10" x 5 " x 5" = 250/231 = 1.08 gallons. or 20" x 10" x 10" = 2000 / 231 = 8.65 gallons.

pots are cone shaped object usually and the formal for that is v= (h*pi/3)*(R² + R*r+r²)

also helpful for the lazy: ABE VOLUME CALCULATORS, CONE

thanks, yea i should mention that those are square dimensions. Actually a lot of growers use square shaped pots because they make better use of the space when placed next to each other. but the same formula can be applied with the area of the 2 different sized ends of the square cone like shape.

well some do i would say, must stick with cone shaped ones despite that they need far more space, but you can buy em everywhere and all around the year. the only place i for sure could buy a square one would be a hydro store -so another online order that could kill you.
