Question exact amount of each additive for a soil mix

Can some one give me the correct amount of additives for a good soil mix. I did see Video Man's mixture but not sure of the amounts of each additive. For example 20 pounds of soil, 10 pounds of perilite etc.................. also how much bone meal per pounds of soil etc.

What type of soil for starting seeds and how much nutrients if any at this stage.

soil mixes are more like cooking than backing so exact amounts are generally not needed - if you notice Vids recipie he calls for handfuls rather than measured amounts - and most recipies are never clear about weather they mean volume or weight when combining ingredients

seedlings have their own little store of nutes and need none till they develop "true" leaves....I like to keep them in the same soiless mixture I use minus the nutes in a 16oz well drained cup...I think this avoids transplant shock to some degree

hope that helps and I am sure others will have more ideas about this

Hey buddy..... I assume you are talking about this thread of mine, and I do try to be pretty specific with amounts, maybe you should re-read it?

The perlite I like to mix in, as I am filling my pots, I use 2 gallon pots, and use about 2-3 handfuls per pot.

Scott is right on the money, growing is alot like cooking but the difference between cooking and baking is huge.

Cooking you grab a handful of this, and a pinch of that, whereas with baking, it is more precise and you have to follow the recipe exactly.

Growing is exactly like that, with the perlite, more is better for a safe rule of thumb, as it offers no nutrients at all, it just helps build a better root system by airating the soil. So you cant hurt the babies by having a little too much perlite.

So far as the rest of the recipe goes, as I said re-read it, and you'll see it explain to use the hydronex potting soil with "Miracle Grow's organic choice" at a two to one ratio, meaning two cups of the hydronex and one cup of the miracle grow.

Add a couple handfuls of the bone meal or bat guano or both and mix well.
One of the benefits using this organic recipe, us it is hard to over feed em.
Once the soil is mixed, all you have to do is water em properly.
A normal healthy plant will only uptake what it needs.
Peace

Miracle-Gro ORGANIC CHOICE POTTING SOIL and PERLITE
I'm finding the simplier the better...
I mix 16 qt of potting with 3qt of perlite,if you want to add blood/bone,bat/worm,sea or fish, fertilizers just add recommended ammount on the containers to each pot(it wont be much a couple of tlbs ea)this soil is a good all around product I've been using ti for a year now and have tried mixing in bone meal, worm castings, and a few others, and I've come to find if your feeding them regularly you don't need all these extra nutes to grow MJ successfully...
But it all comes down to personal preference...

Peace

Hello Video Man,

Thanks for the clarification of your famous recipe! I was a little confused about the amount of bone meal and bat guano to use.

Thanks

Smoking Joe
