Default E's Rubbermaid Grow

Hey all,
I really need opinions on this. I'm too impatient to wait for my cabinet because I'm still planning it, so I have started a rubbermaid system.
Instead of rubbermaid I found two 30 gal totes by Silite. I liked them better because the sides are flatter and it is more square than rounded. The dimensions are 32"L X 19.5"W at top and 26"L X 15"W at base and 17" Tall. I have estimated the volume to be 4.7 cf.

For lights I want to use 24" T5s and have a choice of 2

a. Sun System Spectra Max 24" t5 which contains the following:
4 24 in tubes and 150 watt HPS between 2 tubes on each side with
dual switches to one or both to work at same time.

b. Sun System New Wave 24" t5 with 4 tubes.

For ventalation I have thought using either two 4" Whisper Fans rated at 100 CFMs or one 6" Whisper Fans rated at 230 CFMs. I have estamated the CF of both totes at 9.4 CF.

Which light would be better for this? Do you think the T5s are overkill?

Is the fans enough to control the heat?

I painted the interior with a first coat of primer for plastics and a second coat of bright white reflective paint.

I need to order the light and fans and need opinions.

I would go for the single 230 cfm if you ever plan to upgrade to a larger grow cabinet....but the two smaller fans may come in handy if decide to have a split flower and veg chambers or a drying box in the future...so its kind of 6 of one and a half dozen of the other if you know what I mean....Jangel and Brussels and other T-5 enthusiast will let you know what they think about your lights i'm sure

but basically it sounds like you did some research, narrowed your options and are pretty much ready to start.....enjoy and wishing every success....I'll be watching with anticipation

Hey E,

I'd go with the Sun System New Wave 24" 4 tube light myself. I have one of these and it is very rugged and well made. For a rubbermaid grow it will give you excellent light coverage and a minimum of heat. The Spectra Max would be good for a cab, however, the heat issue with the added hps might very easily overwhelm a rubbermaid (or similar) grow imho.

Later,

Thanks,
That's kinda what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. What do you think of the fans? 2 100s 1 230 or 2 230s ?

I would go with one 230 as you could always use it later in a cab. That way you could go with one smaller fan for a drying area and one larger for the grow area if you decide to split it up, and you would already have the larger, more expensive fan on hand. Besides that, you almost can't go wrong with more ventilation as opposed to less.
