Rep Power: 13 | | Eagle claw leaves
Hello all
setup:
around 400w cfls, 2 snowryders (Lowryder x snow white), 5 weeks old, good bud development, soil, under hessi bloom nutes (one watering off, one on) on 3/4 strenght, PH'd, nice looking gals, no pests, temp and humid are Ok too..
Both are starting to show eagle clawing on some leafs (not widespread, rather localized). Color is fine, no spots or anything, just some burned tips because they touched the bulbs... Is this something to worry about? It's showing on both plants. Overall they look OK, it's just that I think there might something going on because of the claws...
Watering is done about every 2 to 3 days, depending on what they ask for. I'll go with the pot weight to tell..
Please any info will be well received!
peace

Give them more food, lower your pH a little.

Thanks thc! Didn't even think that under-nuting was a possibility!
I'll also keep a more strict look on the PH then! about 6.5??

Clawing can also be a sign of too much N.
Also, the burned leaf tips point to overfeeding.

Last feeding's PH was around 6.9..
I went through the troubleshooter, and I also thought of N. However, I'm using the bloom feed, which I believe is low in N. Maybe it's been too much food? The burned tips are definitely from the lights, that's been my fault altogether. Temps and humid are Ok..
Anyhow, here are some pics, if those can help to pinpoint the problem. You'll see the tall girl (one week older) and the smaller one.
Thanks again

Just a random thought... Could this clawing be due to the sidelights? That the leafs don't want to get light from the sides and are twisting themselves down so that they won't rerceive any "underlight"?
It's just that the problem is quite local and not widespread, but I can't tell since I am always rotating them so that thee sidelights will light them evenly all round...

If your girls don't want the side light, they will need counseling. I don't think you can give them too much light. As long as the heat isn't an issue, they will take as much light as you can give them. It would be darn difficult to match the intensity of the sun.
Looks like a slight overwatering, to me. But, it seems they have made it this far under your supervision. Overall, it looks like you know what you're doing.
Sorry, I can't be of more help.

I read and read, and I saw the ladies a while ago and they were so limpy and sad and leaves all going down, a bit of slight greenish color, so I had to made a decision.
I read on another thread of the soil being too compacted and it's incapacity to soak up any water. I am also using pure soil, no perlite no nothing, and when I checked the soil was very "arid" and I believe it isn't "soaking up"... soil prob..
So I went by J-An advice and just watered them both from the top and with a plate on the bottom to encourage full soakiness.. All the water used was Ph'd and nuted (given thc's advice) and allowed to soak up for 10 minutes..
I'll see tomorrow what happens. I went for my gut feeling, hope I didn't mess it up. hope it helped!
Thanks to all!

Thanks to all!!
They woke up super!! to a much better color and they seem to have been weight lifting through the night after the cpr procedure!
So I believe it was a combo of ph (had to lower), nutes (up it) and soil (not soaking anything). So letting them soak from top & bottom really helped!
Thanks!
