Rep Power: 35 | | Drying and Curing Hey all, so I知 at that point where it's time to cut her down and dry her out! After reading many posts on here, I知 planning on just hanging her up in a rubber maid bin, with a fan in it, near a humidifier and put that on about 50-60% for about a week. I've decided to cure with a brown paper bag for several weeks after that but my question about that is should I be cautious about the buds touching in the brown bags, such as spreading them as far apart to avoid bud rot? Also when I hang them can I just hang the entire stalk or would u guys recommend cutting the stalk down a bit and separating them? Any input or advice would be great, I知 very excited since it's my first grow! Thanks guys!

the first thing that concerns me is you said "humidifier" I think it should be a dehumidifier and you should set it at about 30-40% I think would be cool. Also, drying in the paper bag is simple, they can touch, just don't pack them in. You want to open the bad several times a day, move them around a little, and let it air out for about ten to twenty minutes, then fold the top back down and put them away. Bud rot is more from the bud being too wet for too long and not so much from the buds touching. Lastly, I personally cut the stems down a bit when I hang mine, or I'll section the plant and hang it in several pieces. I have found that it dries a little quicker that way and doesn't take up so much space. Remember, you want the stalk to snap, not bend, before you cure.
I would also suggest using mason jars, or something similar, after the couple weeks in the bags to further cure your goodies. Just put the bud in the jar, don't pack it in, and seal it up and put it in a dark place. Several times a day for the first week or so you want to open the jars, rotate the bud, let any moisture escape and put the lid back on. This helps the moisture from the center of the bud move toward the outside and promotes even drying and curing of the material. After the first week or so, you can go to just opening them once a day, then after another week or so, you can just do it once a week. Lengths of curing time depend on who you talk to, I personally do mine for about six to eight weeks, but there are some who do it much faster, and some who take much longer. There are also several other ways to cure, such as water curing, but I haven't ever done it so I can't really give any advice on that.
Good luck to you, if you have any more questions just ask.

I should mention to smell the buds all the time when you are checking and rotating them, the smell will let you know if they are moldy or starting to mold, then you will have to quick dry them and hopefully save them from being completely destroyed.

there are a couple ways but I have put them on a screen over a heat vent, or other heat source, then let a fan run over them for a little while, should dry up pretty quick. I have also put buds in the microwave, but only do that on half power for about ten seconds at a time cause they get crispy really quick in the microwave. there are a couple other ways to do it, but i'm not thinking of them right now. I'm sure someone else will be around soon to shed some light on this for you.

I can vouch for the steam dried micro method as i used it two days ago and it works a treat if you do it as instructed.
