Rep Power: 58 | | confused about everything...need advice! Hey everyone, this will be my fist grow & I need some advice from experienced growers.....
OK, I will be growing indoors hydroponically...I ordered 5 feminized POWER PLANT seeds & 10 regular SUPER HAZE seeds (DP). I will be using a grow tent: DARK ROOM DR120 STREET: dimensions= 3'11" x 3'11" x 6'7" I'll be growing all 5 of the feminized power plants for sure (they're gonna be medium heigth)... but do you think I'll have enough room in the DR120 Street tent to attempt any super haze plants at the same time....if so, roughly how many regular SH seeds would be a good starting point??
(I'm a newbie you know !)
Moving on, I will be germinating the seeds in 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5" rockwool cubes, and I want to continue using rockwool as the growing medium, as well as Hydroton.
I have a 30 gallon (114 L) Rubbermaid tub to use (it will have the 5 PP's for sure, but I'm unsure of how many SH plants to do, if any at all).
For now, my main questions are: what size net pots are best to use for the 5 Power Plants (& SH plants, if any)- using the 30 gal. tub?I want the net pots to be large enough so that the plants can stay in them from beginning to end, if possible.
For cloning, I'll select the best female plant(s)- (one of each stain, IF I do both kinds) & move these mother(s) into her own private 5 gallon hydro buckets, and clone from them once the mother(s) are 2 months old. I bought a propagation dome & heating pad etc. for cloning purposes, but can this be used to spout the seeds also??
My mind is completely boggled at this point, and I'm sure that I'm going about this the most impractical way, but I'm just ready to start this project already!!
I still need to get the net pots, nutrients, & growing mediums (rockwool, hydroton)- but Im hesitant to purchase these until I can get some logical advice from the GP community! I need to know what size net pots & rockwool pieces I will need, a rough estimate on how much Hydroton to get, and suggestions on good/cheap nutrients. (If you think I should only do the 5 fem Power Plants for my first grow, what size Rubbermaid tub & net pots should I use for those? (the 30 gallon tub seems HUGE for just 5 plants alone!)
As you can see, I'm one super-confused newbie @ this point, but I'd certainly appreciate any help or suggestions to get this project rolling
Feel free to post any replies to this thread, or send me a PM... THANKS!! |

I totally agree with you Scott.... with that being said, please publicly respond to the above question (so long as you're comfortable with doing so)- that way ALL members get the opportunity to read about some alternate solutions, and everyone will be able to send a big 'thank you!' for your help
Not to mention that it saves the same redundant questions being asked over & over! (yes, I know this thread is guilty of it too, but that's why it's "newcomer's questions welcome here"!)
I plan to start my 1st grow journal from day 1 on (I'm just waiting for the stuff to come in the mail) that way I can pass on the knowledge that I've acquired from other members... you know, FOR THE GOOD OF THE GROW!! Thanks Scott

I just wanted to be sure these are the ones you're referring to, b/c other Fox Farm products say they shouldn't be used with hydroponics... thanks

I am sure he means the ones for hydro, Love, LOL! First time I have used that as part of an actual name!
First off, may I ask you why you are doing hydro if this is your first grow? I would go against all you are planning and suggest you get a dirt grow under your belt first, as with hydro things can go south very very fast and you could very easily lose it all in one night, especially with all those expensive seeds. Just my humble opinion.
If you are confident you can handle this then please do yourself a favor and read lots of journals on Hydro so you know what can happen before it DOES happen. Pay special attention to anything by tokecrazy. He is a master at hydro and will help you however you need it.
If you are going to try a dirt grow first, I can help you there. It will teach you much about the plants without having a fatal outcome and without the stress of hydro. Take a look at the links in my signature, My little grow particualarly, as then you can see what you can have happen in even dirt.
Good luck and we will help whatever way you go.
Peace

if you want cheap nutrients try general hydroponics grow, micro, bloom cheap and quality at the same time about 30.00$ usd (for all three parts) but if you want some thing really simple since this is your first shot at hydro try supernatural aqua superboost, grow, bloom 1 half to 1 tsp per gallon depending on the persons preforance and auto ph bufferd,no ph up or down needed and you can get a tri pack (all three) for about 30.00$ usd make sure you get a feeding chart for which ever you choose to do if you go with any of these choices.

I know most people would suggest soil growing for the first experience, but my decision to do hydroponics was based on the fact that I had (most) of the supplies already... cost-efficiency I guess.
my buddy & I were planning to do this months back- where he would maintain the entire system himself & I would keep it at my place & do basic PH readings, if anything. He bought most of the supplies for the hydro setup (at least the bulk of the items), got jack herer seeds (i think) & started the remodeling of my walk-in closet one day, but then never came back to finish the project... left all the equipment in their original boxes (which I eventually stacked up in the corners after months of the sh*t getting in my way!)
After many requests to remove these items if he wished to keep em' (he did get high quality supplies for this project after all) there's been zero effort on his part (whatsoever) to do so... odd, I know! I simply wanted my living space back if he wasn't planning to follow thru w/this anymore b/c of his sudden change in priorities (even though we'd already disassembled my closet for this, cut the carpet out & had most of the needed supplies ready to setup...!) It became apparent that I'd have to figure something out if I wanted my living space back. Either way, I dont wanna f*ck him over & sell the stuff b/c he paid for the items- but when Hurricane Ike rolled thru & made this a "dry" area, I figured I'd give hydroponics a try myself since NOBODY could find (even crappy) green for the LONGEST time~ & that's just NOT gonna work for me !!
I decided to go with a grow tent instead of the walk-in closet idea b/c of it's easy assembly & disassembly and dark room qualities. Plus, its less work on me than having to finish his closet construction project~ I'm a chick so power tools aren't much of my thing! I had to order some seeds too, because that's the only thing he didn't leave over here (figures, the one absolute essential!) I prefer the sativa high, so i got Dutch Passion Power Plant (fem X 5 seeds) & Super Haze (10 regular) seeds.
If I can figure the # of plants to start (besides the 5 fem PPs planning to be grown hydroponically) then I can etch out the tub's lid & get the appropriate size net pots fitted in there- that way when they finally sprout I'll already be ready to transport them to the DWC tub w/everything aleady ready to go....hopefully it'll work in my favor and i'll have few/litle mistakes.
If I can make this happen right, then I can finally enjoy a good (& long drawn-out) smoke~ my ultimate GOAL !!
I might try a combo of growing methods, but if I did soil it would be for only one (maybe two) plants~just to day I did it.
Anywho, if you feel like helping with the cause.... then you know what to do! Thanks everyone |

My feet are dirt (and so are my plants) but whatever I can do to help you just let me know. can't help you with Hydro though.

Theres nothing like having a successful grow under your belt before going hydro.
Your placing it all on the line with hydro, one mistake and the whole grow can be trash. Soil is much more forgiving, and you'll get a harvest in soil, unles you really muck it up but good.
So far as answering your quesition, on if you can add the other plants to your PPP, you dont give enough info to answer that, what do you have for lighting?
Peace
