Default Any one using the "Ebb & Grow" system?

I have come across a new, never been used, Ebb & Grow control system and am thinking of trying the conversion from soil less. From what I have read this is a 2 gallon dual bucket system. 2 gallons seems small to a coco grower, I like 5 gallon. Don't know if this is relevant on this system. Can the buckets be larger? Perhaps 3 or 5 gal.? What are the pros and cons? I would like to try it if the feedback adds up. I do not have the buckets or lines as of yet, they are fairly cheap and may be worth while in my mind.
Train wreck, Jack Herer & Power Plant are the strains I have at this time. Any feedback on what has, or, may do better in an Ebb & Grow? What are some strains that thrive? 13x9 area with up to 5 600 hps, AC 77 degrees with good air flow. I am thinking of 12 pots to start, don't know really. Never grown in this set up .
Thank you for any & all truths or opinions tossed my way.

Kuro

Hey Kuro,Welcome to GP if I havent welcome you already. The system you have is a good system. The two gal buckets do sound to be a little small.Do you have them now.If not you can get the 5 gal buckets but they will take a larger res to run them. What size res do you have now?If you got a pic or two you can post them and we can see what you got and give you what you need to know to start out.Glad to help you anytime. Peace

Jangle & Toke, thank you for your responses and a direction. I do not have any buckets as of yet, only the pumps & control bucket for lack of a better description. Thinking about 3.5 gal or 5 gal. My res is 55 gallons. Also, I was advised on going with 3/4" tubing instead of the size provided with the 2 gallon pre-fabricated system. Any thoughts on this, it seems to make sense. I have never grown this way and all input is appreciated. I am on my way to check out the GP hydro dept, I can use a lot of information due to the fact this is so much different than soil less.

Default I have an Ebb n Grow

The buckets that come with the system are 3.5 gal
I really like them and have 2 systems set up
One BRAIN runs 21 pots
One BRAIN runs 18 pots
Both have 2 x 600w MH/HPS
I do not use the 55 gal as I change nutrients every week and it is waistful
I use 32 gal trash cans.
As far a strains, they all work,
I will say that you have to love gadgets and tinkering.
Much easier in soil.
Here is a few photos of my 21 pot system
Sour Deisel at 17 inchs

Hi Me again
Got to get my hat on and may be I may be of some help.
The BRAIN you have, gravity feeds the buckets.
The will fill the 2 gal buckets up to about 6 inchs if they are on the same level.
If you use 3.5 or 5 gal buckets they will be to tall.
I used some storage bins from wall mart.
They were 10inch tall and 8 gal
I filled the to 7inchs with Hydroton.
I could only get 8 plants effectively under the lights.
Now your light:
I run 2 x 600watt lights. I can cover 18 plants productivly.
I have had 31 pots but the plants outside a 30inch x 30inch area were not wourth the time and trouble.
I have been getting about 600 grams with 2 600watt with this system.
The plant is Sour Diesel vegged for 2 weeks and flowered for 8 to 9 weeks.
The 2 gal pots take up almost 10 inches each.
Hope this helps.

That is interesting. If I did the math correctly that comes out to 33 grams a plant. Does that sour diesel not produce much? Which is one of my favorites to smoke. Never grown it though.

Ive been running a 5 gallon bucket DWC. And Im used to seeing yields closer to 110 grams a plant. My plants are usually about 2ft tall when down. How tall do you veg to in that two weeks. And how tall when done?

Im wondering if the same system would be a good way to go but use 5 gallon buckets with net pots rockwool and hydroton. Would that improve the yield?

I will have my system under 4 1000 HPS for flower.

Hi
Wow!!! 4000watt, my mind boggles at the thought of the elec bill.
But yes you would get some monsters with that light if you have the room.
I made a slight error, I have 9 nine plants under each light typo said 8.
18 plants total:
The SD does is a good producer, I just have not been able to get there.
I have a friend that grows in soil with 2 1000watt and 18 SD plants.
He gets 2.5 lb total. I think his best was 1330grams.
He does veg longer 6 or 7 weeks and blooms for 9
I only veg for 2 weeks at about 9-10 inchs and bloom for 8 at 28 -29 inchs
I do top them as I am limited in grow height.
I get several smaller center colas
He gets a monster center cola.
I am going to veg longer, will try for 4 or 5 weeks then feed them some "Bush master" to control the height

Awesome feedback. I really appreciate it. It sounds like the Sour D really stretches once you flip em. Im used to seeing mine only double in size. I will flip at 12 inchs and usually get 24 inches. Does the SD really need the whole 8 weeks to flower? And if you were not limited on grow height would you not top and shot for big main colas. I have pretty much always topped. It seems to me that the one big cola is sweet looking, but lowers your yields. Would you agree with that or not? Higher yield is what Im usually shooting for.

Have you tried Gravity as well? Or Purple Max. I dont usually have purple strains so I think Im going to try Snow Storm this next run. Its about half the price of the Purple Max. I have heard good things about BushMaster. Supposed to be great.

[QUOTE=Newfriend;156107]Hi
Wow!!! 4000watt, my mind boggles at the thought of the elec bill.

I forgot to respond to the elec bill. Cause it piss's me off. I mean granted it is a lot of juice. Not to mention that I will also be running those 600W's and all the little **** that you need fans Etc. plus an ac unit that says it's 1380w. Then to make things worse I have been trying to hold 78 degrees and 40% hummidity for flowering. I was having problems holding 50 hummidity and being able to maintain tempature. So I just went and added a dehummidifier. And I cant even find out how much energy it uses. Anyways what piss's me off is that the damn electric company charges us on a tier system based on consumption. Charging the high energy user a super inflated premium price. I finally broke my bill down one day and figured out that Im being charged 4x the base rate for my energy. When I break down the #'s the bill would not even be that bad if they were charging me the base rate. But you can imagine when that high use is 4x more the cost. It adds up quick. Lets just say the bill is nothing nice!!

Good come back
I can see we are trying to accomplish the same thing.
What strain are you growing?

YES!! The SD does respond well to Topping.
I have only topped the very top possible bud site trying to leave 2 top colas.
I have been doing this as soon as my clones have enough new leaves.
It works for about 84% of the plants.

Gravity:
I have used it twice, I think it helped, just not sure as my grow and amount of plants and growing skills change daily LOL
No Purple Max, It says do not use and air stone, as it will create some crawlies and beasites.
I have improved my yield by adding a good air stone.
My first grow was only 12g/plant, had a sea of yellow, compliments of Dutch Master Liquid Light, Through the $60 bottle down the drain.

Bush Master:
Just used it this grow, I think I am going to love it.
Vegged my plants this time for 3.5 weeks to 16inchs.
On day 7 of flower they were 27 inchs, I added 1 ml per gal (32ml in a 32gal tank) for
the next 3 days (8-9 and 10) I usually change my tank every 7 days)
The plants will be ready for harvest in about 5 days now and are only 29 inches (Tallest)
Some reasonable looking buds, will know more in a week or 2.

Power Bill
I have managed to keep it under control,
As a senior citizen I get a good break 8 cents/Khr on the base.
It goes up to 15 cent Khr after the base.
I am always above the base now days.
Still expensive, I also have not calculated it out as I am always rebuilding and changing things Grrrrrrrrrrrr Kind of wish I had started with soil.
I knew nothing 18 months ago and only know whats available to read Books, Internet and this web site,
I have been flying under the radar all this time and the wife and me are the only ones to know.
We are Ca medically registered, but you never know.
Forgive the spelling and grammar.

SD bloom time: 8 weeks, Not sure why but my plants Tircks are always cloudy and a few amber at just shy of 8 weeks.

The other is 5 feet x 4.5 feet x 5.5 feet tall.
Not a lot of area to do all I want to do.
