Sure you can, but you have a 50-50 chance of it being either male or female.

sure you can grow from a single seed as Video said, the chances that it turns out to be famale is about 50%.
the problem could be that your seeds are old as you state, and i don't know how well they been stored in those years. so you might have to try a few till you get lucky.

Also, regarding this above you should prepare yourself well for the grow, stating by optimizing the your chances to spruce a seed. in my eyes you can do so by using peat pellets along with a dome, heating of this in some way and a cloning hormone. this all speeds up sprucing and reduces the risk of a blank run by killing a seed.

from seed there is no way besides either growing it or cutting it up and making a chromo test but then you can forget about growing that seed
just grow it and if you lucky clone it right away i would say.

why please a 250W light and what kind of a light you got here in mind?!?

if this was going to be a HPS, it is quiet a wasted of power/ hydro bill to use a HPS below 400W, below that a good CFL can get almost as much light out of a watt then a HPS.

also, a few normal CFLs in the right spectrum of 6500K will do better on vegging a single plant then anything else because can group em around the plant achieving better spread of light this way. and there you will need less the your 250W of what ever...

peace

I have kept the seeds in a camera film plastic pack, the black container with the grey cap, its very tight.

sounds like the far east Asians to me: long time for a single plant, hot & humid. guess not the best place to grow but you have to do what a man has to do - so overgrow em right away man!

well that is good but not my main point - the stress of high and low temps kills seeds, light and moister can do this too but in most case i would say the killers are extreme temps.

since im talin taken seeds threw full term an germing all of them an with proper veg time he will end up with niced sized plants...he could get a degi ballest which has the light output close to a 400...hps/mh dont matter...the benifits of using this light mostly would be for canopy penitration/bud production...while you can veg err herm cfl's not sure why you would want to as growth is etremly slow compared to hid...when switching the plants to flower those cfl's suck cause's airy buds with poor undergrowth...but since it seems the guy doesn't know much about growing i suggest he hit the grow faq an get himself a nice 250.....peace

One seed per cup/pot!!
If you are scared to waste your seeds, do them one at a time till you find a female and clone her as many times as you need.
Do you have a place set up to grow them yet, This is the first thing you should do. Figure out what kind of light your going to use. Then air supply and exhaust are the next battle. Make sure you have many different size pots, for repotting from small to big. Find a good soil if thats how your going to grow. Or building a hydro system, some home work to start reading up on.

I bless your seed.
Female she shall be.

Take care of her and keep her in veg for as long as you can.

Then take clones.
Lots of clones.

The last 12 clones I grew came from 1 seed.

Cool One of Six

I would do it Shaman's way. One seed at a time till you get a female. DO NOT cull any males you get before your female turns up. Males can last a long time, blooming like fireworks all the way, and you will need at least one to make more seeds and in your shoes I would want two or three males "just in case". If your first seed is female you will need to do one seed at a time till a male turns up. Once you have a breeding pair you're on your way. Wait AT LEAST six weeks after you impregnate her with pollen (by simply shaking the male over her) before harvest to insure that your seeds are mature enough to sprout. Hang her upside down over a tray until the seeds fall off at the slightest touch. At this point your worries are over as even a small female can produce 100 or more seeds. May the force be with you.
