Default New to the whole MJ scene

Hi everyone.

Im new to the scene. Im Australian and have fallen inlove with this wonderful plant that god has given us.

Iv been growing my own veggies and chillis for quite some time now and have only just decided to give growing MJ a go indoors.

Iv currently got a setup in an old cabinet I picked up at an opshop.
A friend got me a bag of seeds for me to start on, we have no idea what strain they are.

Iv got 2x 45W 6500K CFLs working on my seedlings at the moment. Ill be using either 2700K CFLs for flowering or I might get a 400W HPS setup. Ive got a few PC fans ventilating the area aswell. Ill probably be asking lots of questions in the near future.

Here are a couple of photos of my brand new little seedlings. Im so excited.

Default Welcome Aboard

Fasten you safety belt, make sure your tray table is in its upright position,as we prepare you for your learning experience.
Take a look around if you have a question just post it in a thread and before you know it you'll have more responses than you know what to do with...

You can use 1 of the 45w Cfl's to get started with, once the seedlings are 3"-4" tall then add the other 1 and keep them 4"-6" away from light to prevent stretching(tall & skinny)you wiil need to use 6500K bulbs during veg, and a mix of 2700K & 3500k & 6500K to bloom...
You can use bath light strip fixture 5-6 bulb(cheap $13.00-$18.00)
wire to old lamp cord, attach to a board and hang...
Check out our CFL threads and enjoy

They seem to be kinda stretching upwards alot. almost twice the size since yesterday. I have the light about 3inches away. How tall do they normally stretch before starting to bush up. Im kinda hoping to keep them short and bushy if possible.

They are trying to get closer to the light. I let mine stretch and then after they have dropped their first coloidal leaves, the round water leaves, you can bury the stem up to those leaves on the first potting up. It means they will have a better root system as all that buried stem will grow roots. You can try getting them closer to the light, raise them up however you can, and that will stop the stretching. But you have to really watch you don't burn them. Otherwise, don't worry too much about it.

Peace

Awesome, Thanks jangel.

I havent heard about this potting up business. So do I just put more soil up to those water leaves when they fall off, or just droop down?

Sorry about all the questions....

No, I mean when you transplant them into a new bigger pot. You have to wait till that pot they are in gets more full of roots, then make sure your new pot is deeper than the one they are in now. I have used tall yogurt containers with holes burnt into them with a soldering iron, for drainage. Just so that part is buried in new fresh soil. Or look around for new pots now, use whatever you can find as long as it is opaque. Square pots are best as this allows for more soil and the plants get more benefit in square pots without wasting room on empty corners, like in round pots.

Read up on transplanting and other things that will benefit you by reading my journal, the link is in my signature, it is My Little Grow. This will show you what you need to know. And what the learning curve is like too! LOL! It is better for you if you know things BEFORE you have to, beleive me.

Hope it helps you,
Peace

Default A newbie also

This is one of the greatest sites I've ever Stumbled on. I love MJ, and look forward to getting my own grow started. BTW Johnny, I love how you've named your plants.
