Hello whitetrash6 and welcome to GP.It sounds like you have found a home here.Glad to have you with us.To answer you on picking seeds there's a thread in seeds, strain and seedbank reviews that will give you some insite on picking seeds to grow. The post is on page 7 by BloodshotIz check it out. There's a few good reads in the FAQ on lighting, you want to start 18 hours on and 6 hours off in the seed and veg cycle.12/12 is the flowering cycle.Give us some infor on how you grow and what you grow in{soil or hydro}.What lights you have ,the whole ball of wax. Welcome to GP.Peace

Just to let you know, I grow all my plants on 24/0 light. That means 24 hours of light. Please read my inside journal to here more about this. The link is in the signature. First one. Unless you are flowering your plants, they do well on 24 hrs of light. Never had a problem so far and my babies are very healthy. This way you do not have to worry about timers or remembering dark periods. It works for me.

It depends what type of seeds they are. Most are dark, but there are some that are naturally lighter. I will try and find the link to a post about this.
