Exclamation WA. Dept. of Health releases PRELIMINARY Report

The below info is from Steve Sarich, the Director of CannaCare in WA. and Nevada.

Thanks to all who may have attended the public hearings, or wrote letters or posted on the DoH site about the pending requirements.

This is AWESOME News!!!! Woo Hoo!!

ISO

***********************************************

As your "60 day supply", the DOH is recommending 35 ounces! The bigger news is that there won't be any plant limit. Instead they are recommending 100 square feet (10 ft. x 10 ft). This is a big win!

Key Messages:

• The department based its recommendation on medical and scientific research.
• The department kept in mind that the definition needed to be clear and easy to use.
• The department sought input from patients, advocates, doctors, law enforcement, and the public.
• The supply definition is designed to cover the needs of most patients.

Talking Points:

• The recommended amounts in the draft language are 35 ounces of cultivated marijuana and 100 square feet of canopy.
• The department held four public workshops to get input in Seattle, Spokane, Vancouver, and Yakima in September 2007. About 300 people attended the workshops.
• Comments also came via email, mail, fax, phone, and through a dedicated website. We received more than 300 comments by email, mail, fax, and phone. Over 150 comments were posted to the website.
• Most comments said the allowable supply should be clear, cover most patients’ needs, account for different methods of use, and be based on medical and scientific research.
• The proposed amount of cultivated marijuana is based on the average dosages for patients in the federal medical marijuana program multiplied by two to allow for uses other than smoking.
• The proposed definition of plant canopy is based on research suggesting that plant canopy is a better indicator of yield than number of plants. The proposed amount is based on research showing that a plant yields about .41oz per square foot plus extra footage to allow for variances in growing skill and environment.
• The proposed amounts of marijuana are more than the amounts allowed in Oregon but less than the amounts allowed in some California counties and cities.
o Oregon – 24 ounces useable marijuana and 6 mature plants and 18 seedlings
o California – ranges from 8 ounces up to 3 pounds of useable marijuana and from 6 mature plants up to 99 plants.
• There are several counties in California that use plant canopy instead of plant count as a measure.
o Ranges from 25 square feet to 100 square feet. Some also include a plant limit and canopy limit.
• We will now accept and review comments on the proposed draft. We may make adjustments before moving forward to a public hearing on the proposed language. We hope to make a final decision by July 1, 2008.

Sounds fair and just and compassionate. Like it should be. Hope it passes and helps protect us against harrasment.

Sadly, there are some issues going on with WA politics that are trying to intervene in the approval process for the new regulations that has been started already. It is going to be an "up hill" battle, but hopefully the sick folks in WA can prevail.

well it might be a stony road to travel still but the recomendation is great - besides, did you expect that the DEA would ride in on this one and spreading the old lies once more?
