no IBs doesnt xcome with age it happens just the same amount in male and female but it is usual diagnosed in the ages 15-24
I've always heard that 'generally' women suffer from IBS at a higher rate then men. In fact most experimental treatments and studies are for women only afaik.
I don't think it comes with age, although symptoms can come in flare-up episodes. For instance, for several years you might have bad IBS symptoms but then for a couple years they get better, only to get worse again, etc. Also, a person can be IBS-D (diarrhea predominant) for years, and then suddenly it flip flops and becomes IBS-C (constipation predominant).
IBS is one of those odd diseases that there's no test for. You can't go in and get a blood test, x-ray, ultrasound, brain scan, etc to see if you have it. Instead it's diognosed via a process of elimination. They generally do a blood test, maybe a ultrasound, maybe a colonoscopy, etc, and once they rule out some GI stuff and nothing's left they say "bingo, you must have IBS."
There's really no treatment for IBS that I know of. There's OTC anti-diarrhea medicine that is opiate based. In theory the stuff is not additive like opiates, because it targets the gut, but from accounts I've read people often end up needing to increase doasages to get the same effect (gee, like opiates), and when they stop taking it they go through pretty much all the normal opiate withdrawl symptoms. Here's a thread on that Immodium - long term use & Withdrawal symptoms >> Medical Questions, Weight Loss, Pregnancy, Drugs, Health Insurance Some folks say "hey there's no withdrawls" but others give a different testimony.
Sometimes steroids are prescribed, but those have some major downsides.
Probiotics are also rumored to help, some kinds more than others. I've had some luck with reducing symptoms with Florastor (saccharomyces boulardil lyo).
Mostly the 'best' medical advice involves modifying diet, reducing stress. There's a lot of good basic info about that at Irritable Bowel Syndrome ~ Help For IBS Treatments & Education Generally it's higher fiber, lower fat, avoid dairy and some greens, etc. Avoiding junk food, chemicals, white bread and sugar does seem to help. Taking Metamucil and eating a lot of flax, and whole oats also seems to help.
I don't have any mmj experience yet. I've been working on documenting my qualifying condition so hopefully soon I'll see how it works. From my google research results are mixed, it really helps some, and doesn't help others, IBS can be fickle like that with most forms of treatment. Different people just respond differently.
My plan is to do this method of dosage with MMJ On the theory that it will be slower acting over a longer time, and will hopefully get more cannaboids to the GI tract. I guess there are also gel caps that do't dissolve until they hit the lower GI, and in theory they could be filled with hempoil to really target the GI cannaboids recievers (maybe, just a theory).

IBS isn't really an age thing. You probably need more fiber in your diet. Try snacking on natural things like grapes and apples. Drop the fried / greasy stuff to a minimum. You can also make your own bread, etc, with things like milled flax seed added in for extra nutritional value.
Ohhh, well I'm sure it's just my poor diet then. I better get back to eating somewhat normal then! I'm not allowed in the kitchen tho to make my own bread lol BAD things happen with me in the kitchen!! But I will drop a hint to my girly, maybe she could make some good bread, I would be up for trying that out! Thanks!!
I forgot to mention that the spice turmeric is also rumored to promote GI health and possibly helps alleviate some of the IBS symptoms. Turmeric is usually in curry.
A no gluten diet seems to help some people. The Atkins diet also seems to help some people.

I have IBS due to a back break in the lumbar part of my spine. The only thing that provides any relief (and it doesn't provide 100%) is cannabis. I can not however eat it. I have to extract the cannabinoid and eat that, if I eat an edible made from the actual bud material I will be sick. So I generally vape, smoke hashes, and the occasional J.
I hope you get some relief, for all the pain my back causes me it has no where near the negative impact on my life as the associate IBS has. I can't even begin to say how many times I have been late to appointments I simply CAN'T be late to, and had to look like a jackass making up excuses.

Does your IBS respond better to indica or sativa, or does it not matter? Any particular strain more effective? Is it IBS-D or IBS-C?

I have been suffering from IBS for the last 15yrs or so and i have been given just about every med known to man. For sure the pain and frequent trips to the bathroom are bad, but for me it's the anxiety of not knowing when i will need to use the toilet, this as you can imagine makes having a social life problematic. But just recently i have been using alternative med's ( i started my own CFL grow after researching the subject in depth with the help of you great guys) i have been growing dwarf plants mainly as my space is limited but ones i can recomend are Afghan Kush Ryder and Automatic AK47 these, for me any way, relive the pain and help with the anxiety. Hope this can be be of some help to someone.
Regards
