Myth: Marijuana Use is a Major Cause Of Highway Accidents. Like alcohol, marijuana impairs psychomotor function and decreases driving ability. If marijuana use increases, an increase in of traffic fatalities is inevitable.
Fact: There is no compelling evidence that marijuana contributes substantially to traffic accidents and fatalities. At some doses, marijuana affects perception and psychomotor performances- changes which could impair driving ability. However, in driving studies, marijuana produces little or no car-handling impairment- consistently less than produced by low moderate doses of alcohol and many legal medications. In contrast to alcohol, which tends to increase risky driving practices, marijuana tends to make subjects more cautious. Surveys of fatally injured drivers show that when THC is detected in the blood, alcohol is almost always detected as well. For some individuals, marijuana may play a role in bad driving. The overall rate of highway accidents appears not to be significantly affected by marijuana's widespread use in society.

I haven't seen any real studies, but there is plenty of annecdotal evidense showing that long term smokers of MJ compensate for their slow reflexes (when high) by driving slower and therefore driving "as safe" as when they are not stoned...so my interpretation is not that it won't impaire judgement and reaction time...but rather smokers learn to handle the impairment...as long as it is a dose that they are used to.

Does a pharmacist run the same risk if I pick up my prescription, then take too many pills and drive into a cop and parked car?

The point in the indictment that indicates undercovers were purchasing MJ for "no serious medical ailments" makes me laugh too. 1/2 the people on prescription medication don't have "serious medical ailments" either. Most of them are just addicted and can't quit... and who would want them to? Certainly not the Pharmecutical companies who make all the $, then line the pockets of the politicians by way of donations.
I absolutely agree and it is a known fact that people who are addicted to alcohol and prescription drugs cause many accidents, crimes, etc.

There are no known addictive substances in marijuana and they will not find any because it is a PLANT. Addictive substances are artificial additives. Although we all have our own mental addictions, we will not suffer from withdrawel symptoms or the aggressive tendencies from chemically induced states. It really is a problem that greedy people have created to collect on addiction. I also imagine how they may ruin marijuana if it is legalized with their greed but slime always slides off.

"Addictive substances are artificial additives"

What about opium? That is not artificial, and is very additive.

It is not addictive unless people add substances to it then they make heroin-like forms. I can definitely say that somebody who smokes it on a regular basis will become mentally dependent on it for euphoric release. In it's pure form it looks like milk. I myself have never tried it; a very good friend of mine has been an avid user for years but they live where it is an accepted spiritual practice. Pure opium is virtually impossible to aquire because most mass producers make heroin out of it. If you have a field source or know how to extract it yourself then you have the real thing but nobody wants to do that because it is a tedious process and highly illegal.
