Rep Power: 27 | | Friend died Thursday...
I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I didn't see a medical debate forum. Sooo I pledged a Fraternity a couple monthes ago with my buddy Sal, seriously depressed and anxious. He was prescribed the necessary mood stabilizers and strong doses of xanax. Over time and as I got to know Sal it was obvious how addicted he was. He opened up told me he had serious problems with opiates and xanax. He would binge the whole bottle away and have to wait and deal with his SEVERE anxiety for the rest of the month. Bad family life etc. The only time I saw him more relaxed than me was during one of our stressful pledge events and I had brought a blunt and we smoked it to calm down cause i was getting furious. He seemed to not mind much and to just be himself with no worries. A few weeks after we became brothers he voluntarily admitted himself to inpatient rehab. He told all of us he had a problem and that the fraternity as a whole helped him seek the help he knew he needed. I hadn't heard from him since and I got a phone call yesterday and for some reason i just knew. I knew the phone call was because Sal had died. I can't explain it. The day after he got of rehab the found him dead in his bed. I can't help but think if perhaps medical use of marijuana for anxiety and mood elevation was more widely excepted and he had been able to supplement his mood stabilizers ith a non-addicted alternative this would never have happened.

My heart goes out to you, my friend. I understand. I too use mmj for depression and my partner has major problems as your friend did. I understand your pain.
I will move this to the medical gardens, our med forum.
Peace, and talking helps, my dear, it does.

Man I am so sorry for your loss and mostly sorry for the pain Sal must of been dealing with for much longer then anyone knew.. Giving someone Xanax is like the craziest thing in the medical field, I know first hand, no one should be prescribed such an addicting mind altering mess of pills.. I will bet if your friend had the right doctors who knew what they were doing enough to have prescribed medical marijuana for his anxiety and other health problems he had, he sure would of had a different more welbalanced life for himself and he just might still be with you all. I feel so hurt when I hear a story like this. I use marijuana for my depressions, anxiety and bipolar. I believe it has saved my life more then a few times through out my long life. But my therapyst will hear nothing of it. The doctors insist pot causes mental illnesses to be worse. If used moderatly, Marijuana has saved lives and made many a lives worth living for... Again I am so sorry, My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. It is sad it had to be like this but, like you were saying,, it could of been different for Sal if marijuana and all it's good was more excepted.. I hope I have not gone on too much and upset you,, It's just that this kind of thing hits close to home.....Blessings

I am sorry for your loss. I am sure MMJ would have been a great help for Sal. I have a friend named Sal.
