I am confused here, they say, "At the beginning of the project, organic chemists made a bunch of slightly different molecules that resembled both of their natural inspirations — THC and anandamide. Once those chemicals had been synthesized, other researchers tested them on the proteins that are stimulated by marijuana."

Does this mean that this new chemical is synthetic? Why were sea urchin eggs needed if they were synthesizing a hybrid molecule? The article is kind of vague. Did they extract pure anandamide from the Urchin Eggs, and THC from the marijuana and somehow create hybrids from that? The article suggests otherwise when it says, "a bunch of slightly different molecules that resembled both of their natural inspirations", why do they get slightly different molecules unless they are synthetic? If they are synthetic, what does marijuana and sea urchin eggs have to do with anything here, aside from them both having chemicals in them that they are hybridizing here?


Long story short; how do I make this stuff?

Right now, become a research biologist/chemist/botanist. (And get yourself some sea urchins.)

I thought they meant that the new chemical they created was synthesized from the two sources.

Sounds like it might lead to better meds and might be fun to play with but honestly guys, whenever I hear about the medicinal qualities of cannabis being replicated with synthetic drugs I immediately think VERY BAD THING.

Any such drug produced synthetically in a laboratory environment serves as another tool to those who seek to persecute us as criminals. The second you create a drug that effectively replicates the positive aspects of a naturally occurring plant, which can be monopolized by the pharmaceutical companies; you have effectively removed one of the best reasons to legalize that plant.

I DO NOT think that cannabis should be legal only as a prescription drug and not as a recreational substance, but at least it’s a start.
