Default ADD/ADHD: Ritalin and Amphetamines are Dangerous: Marijuana is Better

Dr. Phillip Leveque Salem-News.com

ADD/ADHD Drugs Have Caused Hundreds of Deaths.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - For those who frequently read my work, I think you know by now that I don’t get surprised much or often. But I had to lift an eyebrow when the Oregonian published an article Kids on ADHD drugs do better on tests,

April 27, 2009.
The medicated kids did do slightly better, 3 to 5 points. Ritalin, a brain stimulant, is the most common medication. Others are very similar and presumably “help the kids to mentally focus on their work”.
The article stated that the children also received behavior therapy and tutoring but they didn’t consider that.

I myself did not have any ADD/ADHD patients but I do know of several such patients in California and a couple in Oregon. The parents were “afraid” of Ritalin and tried marijuana brownies and with their own words stated miraculous changes for the good.

I wrote a related story about this, Autism Ritalin and Cannabis on salem-news.com May 23, 2008 and a previous article Autism, ADD, ADHD and Marijuana Therapy.

I REPORTED FROM A COMPUTER SEARCH THAT RITALIN (AND PROBABLY OTHER DRUGS) HAD CAUSED ABOUT 300 DEATHS.

Ritalin is a junior grade methamphetamine which is notorious for causing many cardiac deaths and Ritalin and the others CAN cause death by doubling or tripling the recommended dose.

To do further computer research on the subject of Ritalin poisoning I found several articles supporting my position: Accardo, P.J. Ritalin Poisoning, Child believed to have died from Ritalin poisoning, 3 dangerous side effects Ritalindanger.com, Ritalin Poisoning, webmail: No more Ritalin, ADHD drugs Adderal and amphetamine and Ritalin can harm children, Ritalin concerta, cardiac arrhythmia side effects.

There are about 9000 articles relating to the subject of Ritalin dangers or Ritalin toxicity. I hope you get the idea! I will recognize that there are about 6 million children on these kinds of drugs. The really strange factor is that these diseases weren’t even invented ‘til about 1970.

Before that, since about 1930, when amphetamine was discovered it has had a very colorful history. The Germans played with the structure and made methamphetamine which was used by German Blitzkrieg Soldiers to conquer Europe.

Col. Carlson’s U.S. Marine Raiders found out about it and found that Raiders could march for 72 hours before falling in a heap. Amphetamines were widely used by all sides during WWII and I’ll bet they are still used.
Long haul truckers called them “co-pilots” and felt they were better than caffeine. Yep it’s true.

After the war they were widely used as appetite suppressants mostly for slightly overweight ladies. The lethal METH crises was soon to follow. It’s one of the most addicting and lethal drugs around.

Pity, they are very close relatives of Adrenaline our natural “flight or fight” hormone.

DAMN THE ORGANIC CHEMISTS AND DAMN THE RITALIN DOCTORS!

my opinion is that doctors and schools use these medictions as a crutch for behavioral problems....im not saying some dont need it but it seems to me that they choose to over prescribed these meds , much like bipoalr diagnisis...every single person alive shows some symptoms of bipolar...some more than others.
imo these meds cause more harm then good....i had a friend in hs that was made to take ritalin in the 8th grade and it lasted through out igh school....he committed suicide after graduation when he was taken off his parents medical coverage and couldnt afford his prescription...to which he was severly addicted to by that time....if a persion is treated for hdhd and doesnt in fact have it the effect of the midication is alot like that of cocain....but last much longer. i do not know first hand but i do know that the pain and suffering chris when through coul;d only have been brought on by severe physical and mental addiction.

My doctor had me on 200mg of Provigil for Shift Work Sleep Disorder and ADHD. I worked 11PM to 7PM but my off days rotated so I couldn't sleep when needed and couldn't stay awake when needed. He also said that it is sometimes used to treat ADHD. I thought it was a wonder drug at first! Sometimes I would be up for 36 -42 hours straight. I kept having acid reflux so they took my gall bladder. Still had reflux. Quit taking meds and the reflux stopped. I have been taking Stratterra lately and it had side effects as well that I did not care for. Plus it can only be dispensed it such small amounts I got tired of the hassle and quit taking it. Now I take no ADHD meds and will soon be self medicating. I intend to make my own prescription rules!

I find it disturbing when news outlets release stories with headlines like, "Kids on ADHD drugs do better on tests." Of course kids do better on tests after taking stimulant medication. People - kids and adults alike - without ADHD will generally see improved test scores when they take amphetamines (e.g., Ritalin, Adderall). It's analogous to drinking coffee to "perk up" in the morning: caffeine, like amphetamine, is a stimulant (albiet a weaker one).

Amphetamines have been/are currently used by the US military to improve performance ("Go Pills" for fighter pilots?). Amphetamines can, in fact, be dangerous. Coke and Meth probably won't kill you if you're reasonable and careful with their use, but we know that they can and do cause deaths.

The distinction between "therapeutic" psychostimulants (e.g., Adderall, Ritalin) and the "street drug" stimulants (e.g., Cocaine, Meth) is largely a matter of dosage, eponym and cultural attitudes.

As someone who has been on Adderall, Stratera & Vyvance... yes they all have side effects, the biggest for me was 3 to 4 headaches a week, that were debilitating. My doctor had drugs for side effects every time they came up, which gets old fast. Then I found by accident that a good sativa strong hybrid or a straight sativa allowed me to focus really good, and keep me from getting stressed out.
And, myself... I'd rather put an all natural substance in my body any day over the synthetic Bullsh*t big pharma comes up with, plus it screws up your natural vibrational states, which causes issues down the line.

It's "funny" (not in the least, really, but you know what I mean) how Pharm's answers to the problems created by its drugs are...more drugs. Anyone else see the potential profit-generating cycle here? *barfing-face smiley*

Man, it's a vicious cycle, scary at times having been through some experiences that rival an acid trip, due to "Here take this, to counteract that..." Some day everyone will wake up to the fact that the only drugs the FDA will ever approve are those that suppress symptoms, never will they approve a "cure"... that don't make no money!!
