Default co2 and ventilation question

I am flowering in a 2x4 wide and 5'3 ft high tent. I am running a 6 inch canfan pulling air from a filter threw a cool tube and back out the fan to outside the tent. at the bottom of my tent i have 4 in hole open for fresh air to come in.

ok so i bought co2 controller for a co2 tank. all i need now is a tank.

so do i turn of the 6in canfan when co2 is running? other wise i believe any co2 i run will be just pulled out of the grow area.

and how much co2 do i run? how long?

i think i may plan to run co2 3 times a day. i will turn on co2 for 15 minuets the first hour, then again 6 hours in of 12/12, the the last hour of 12/12.

Hey Lee
To add CO2 to your setup won't be to hard. The tank can sit anywhere as long as you have enough tubing to wrap around the plants. You'll be running the CO2 between light sessions so not to waste it. In that small an area you'll need very little gas to bump up the ppm's. In round numbers you'll be looking to add about 1000 parts per million and since your tent probably has an existing ratio of 900 to 1100 parts already, you'll only be adding a titch. Good luck bro and happy growing.

Zig are you suggesting to run the Co2 when the lights are off?

Lee, you should really have a sealed room to run Co2 effectively. Although you can use it in a tent. The gas is run when lights are on You also need to shut off the exhaust fans, to keep from pulling the Co2 out of the tent.

You may want to hook up your cool tube to its own fan along with its own intake and exhaust that way you can sorta keep the temps under control without sucking out the gas. When the lights go off during your dark period that would be the time to start your filter exhaust fan.

Lastly there are a couple of calculators out there on the web, that will tell you how long and how often you will need to turn the gas on to maintain the desired level of Co2. My bookmark is dead so your gonna have to search for it yourself. Its a learning curve to get it straight, and I honestly dont think you will notice a huge difference in your outcome. BUT I will be more than happy to say "Nice job, man I was wrong"

Default Do not vent

I have the same set up as you. I run a 20lb C02 tank for an hour when the lights come on and for an hour, a few hours before lights shut off.
i have lines that run to both veg and flower rooms and fans run all the time, as well as pumps for DWC but its no longer necessary to vent when you have a c02 source directly in your room.
that is the very reason that you vent in a restricted air flow area. to get c02 to your precious ladies. it defeats the purpose of purchasing the tank and buying the gas and then sending it right out the door or window? right?
so no, you do not want to vent; only run your tank when your lights are on, because plants only use c02 in higher amounts when they are photosynthesizing.
If you have fans in the tent for proper air movement then you have nothing to worry about; you want the air to "swirl" around your girls, underneath and all over. that air movement gets rid of the transpired oxygen and brings in new air or c02 for them to "breathe".
I run the tank at .5 whatever the measurement is for volume of gas per minute. you dont need a whole lot. my area is two 5x5 rooms and i see considerable gains in my ladies every day since i began using it.

hope all goes well

Without rewiring your setup Lee, you'll have to run the CO2 when the canfan is off. Otherwise you'll flush the gas out as fast as you're putting it in, overall to your grow, heat considerations should be more important than adding gas...IMO. Good luck .

Hey All,I have been using co2 for this grow and the last one.I have the milwaukee MA957 regulator and a 20 lb tank. Its important that you put your co2 lines up high above the tops of the plant. If not the co2 will burn the leafs and the branches it touches. Here's a link, very good read with a chart on using co2 Simply Hydroponics - Article 2-5 Eric . Peace

hello,
Doesn't that mean you'll suck it all out the 16th minute?

If it gets that hot during your canfan's off time that it comes on instantly then you obviously will lose your co2.

you would have to have a closed system with an air conditioner for heat.

Can you cool the room around the tent , again so as not to exhaust your gas in the tent.

Can you reuse the exhaust air that is already a higher co2 content?

btw IMO multiply the size of your exhaust hole by 4 for the size of the inlet ( if a passive inlet) so (1) 4" exhaust hole would need (4) 4" holes or equivelant for sufficient unrestricted air flow, or use another fan blowing in.

good luck & I hope this isn't more confusing than it's worth.

Yea I know that I will be sucking out the CO2 when the fan turns back on. I can't run a closed system. So I figure some CO2 is better then no CO2. I hope? CO2 is cheap anyways so fck it.

I hope it does something.

Your missing the whole point in c02 gas bud. You DO NOT want to run your can fan at all if you plan on runnin C02. Its pointless; a complete waste bro. just return your C02 valve.

Your gonna pump it out for 15 minutes its not even gonna have the time to be consumed by the plants. read everything i posted above and what everyone is tellin you. There is no reason to vent if you are gonna go Supplied C02; you basically have 2 options when you grow indoors. Supplied C02 or Vent in air w/ a passive or active intake/outake. feel me?
