Here we go! My first soil journal on this site for your viewing pleasure!!! I've been a big fan of Mandala genetics for the last 4 years. Great genetics, and very low maintenance, and super nutrient efficient.

So..... I started the last 3 Mandala #1 seeds I have left. Trying to run through some seed stock. This strain last time I grew it was very nice. Had an awesome dried apples smell to it when dry. Its mainly a sativa, but grows shorter like an indica. Forms a nice Christmas tree shape in flower.....

*_MANDALA #1_*
Type: sativa-indica
Genetics: S. African highland Sativa x NZ Purple Indica & North Indian Sativa
Flowering time: 55-60 days indoor; mid-end of September: outdoor/greenhouse
Yield (dry weight): 450gr/m2 indoor
Aroma: properly cured buds have a natural sweet smell like dried apples. The purple plants spread a delicious raspberry fragrance, with a touch of minty freshness.
High: an up-high that spreads in waves; euphoric; creative; can also be spacey or dreamy at the start.
Medical potential: Mandala #1 may benefit with it's anti-anxiety and anti-depressive effect.

I planted the 3 seeds back on 9/15....kinda fast forwarding, since I am starting from scratch here... here are a few pics through veg. I got a female and set to flower 12 days ago with the rest of my garden.....

First Grow ! Hope this goes well

Well, here we go. This is my first grow and i must say, i am excited. I was originally thinking of trying out LED's, but after doing some reading, getting a few headaches and taking a good look at the amount of money i had to play around with, i decided to go with a " DIY stealth Rubbermaid growbox ". By the way, VERY awesome creation.

here is what i did:
I decided to make the setup hydroponic, so i set up a "flood" watering system, keeping the res. underneath the box. It is set to turn on the pump twice a day for 5 min (enough time to get the rockwool wet). Also put in some of those little clay hydro balls to take up space so i would need less water to flood them.

I am using CFL's in this setup (6x 26w). At first, being too excited to do some research, i got some 3500k ones, and have been kicking myself in the head. Now got some 6500k to help in the Vegging, still 26w a piece.

Since this is my first grow, and being skeptical in my abilities, i bought myself some mid quality seeds ( Don't get me wrong, they will still be a good smoke, but not the best just yet). Also was worried they might not get to me due to customs. Lemon Skunk was what i got. Indica / Sativa mix, fem seeds, decent ratings.

Only germinated 3 seeds for now, 2 of them grew to be little sprouts, one of them, sadly, perished. So now they are growing along, 1 week into popping out of their shells

Will post pics soon, feel free to point out obvious bone head mistakes that i may have made along the way !

Okay, so I was feeling a little silly when I titled my post, shoot me! hehe

Anyways, I've just started my second grow, sadly, just some bagseeds I had from long ago (don't worry, they were stored well!) the seeds were from some pretty good stuff, so I hope they turn out!

I germinated them for a few days pressed between some paper towels, and once they had good sprouts going, I moved them into their own spacious, one bedroom flower pot! *laugh* okay, joking aside, I moved them into their own 3in pots, the sprouts are doing well, and I have the first set of pointed leaves right there on top of the round sprout leaves. so far, they're coming close to an inch tall.

Will be posting baby pix shortly! :D

Earth Tainer grow.

ok, so i figured i would start my grow journal a bit early because i have come across a super cool method when it comes to the overall watering of the plants. its called a "Earth Tainer"

heres the link to the website:

About Us (http://www.earthtainer.org/About_Us.html)

heres a 20 min. video:

Tomato Festival - Carmel TomatoFest - Event Video (http://earthtainer.tomatofest.com/earthtainer-video-intro-chapter1.html)

and heres the construction Guide:

http://earthtainer.tomatofest.com/pdfs/EarthTainer-Construction-Guide.pdf

what the earth tainer is made to do, is to mimic the earth. the container helps the plants with getting the right amount of water it need as well as the right amount of oxygen. the plant takes care of its self. when it needs water it will pull the water from the reservoir and when it does that, oxygen mixes into the soil at the same time. creating the perfect conditions for the plant. You just have to put water in the reservoir and bam! no more stressing over watering them again.

basically after i came across this, i just had to try it out. Later that day i went out and got some of the supplies. i still need to pick up a few more things but soon i will have it made and ill have pictures of the construction.

since the container is 31 gallons i plan on using it like a soil bed. i plan on 10 beautiful females. but do you think that is too much for the space it provides?

I’ve never done a journal so this will be something new for me. I’m hoping that doing one will help me be more consistent. In the past I’ve only taken notes on key items, and they’ve often been less than complete and somewhat random. Or I can’t figure out where I put the note when I need or which note book it’s in.
This is going to start with a long interruption, just to let any viewers know. I’m leaving for 7 to 10 days to help my sister move and if need be to protect her from her soon to be ex-husband.

So to start I germed’ 4 Blue Mystic’s from Nirvana along with 5 bag seeds. 100% germination so starting on a good note.
I’ve no experience with Blue Mystic, I’ve read they can be fussy and not easy to grow, time will tell how well we like each other. I also don’t know how they do in hydro, I haven’t decided yet but they may get a home in dirt instead of having their toes in the water. If anyone’s had experience with this strain, especially with hydro, It’d be appreciated to have a better understanding of what special needs these children have.
The main reason I choose the strain is that they’re supposed to have a ’neutral’ smell while growing, a high Thc level and reasonably short flowering time.
Pic 1 First making their way into the world
Pic 2 Their home 'till I get back.
Keeping my fingers crossed they'll stay alive and health, if not this might be a very short thread.
Ebb n’ flow set to one inch feed once every three days, filtered water with only super thrive under two 40w T-8's on 18/6.

Summer 09 WA balcony Grow

i started with a couple of white rhino mother plants and a pack of the premium mix from Marijuana Seeds (cannabis Seeds) High Quality Low Prices (http://www.marijuana-seeds.nl) (good genetics, reliable, godd $$). And only 1 female came out of the mix pack and i think its SSH; I also recieved 5 free Mazar x Afghan seeds of which one was a hermaphrodite the others males (but it worked out in the end since i used the hermie for breeding). I also recieved a Alaskan thunderfuck clone and Double Dutch clone from my dispensary; the trichome formation on these babies was phenomenal as you will see. I crossed branches on all my females with a hollow stem, fast growing indica that came in the mix pack (i think it was either BB or NL; im leaning towards BB though).
I used DWC with a nutrient formula straight from holland that is made here in the northwest. Plants were started indoors/outdoors under a 400w MH then taken outdoors for flowering on my balcony.

Well hello all, I started this grow months ago but due to trial and error I stunted them for a while. Four of them are on day 12 of flower and four are still being sexed. The first four are the ones left of twelve. Had to destroy eight males :banghead:. The other four that are on day 3 of flower went smoother of course. I will resize some photos and post them in a couple hours. I need to go check on them now. I would love any advice you may have, and will gladly help in any way I can as well. see ya in a few.....

Hey peeps!

This is my first grow project, and as i'm already up and growing, I thought it'd be a good idea to do a grow journal to document my progress.

I'm growing for personal use, because I like making and growing things (I have a small regular garden as well), and I'd like to be self-sufficient. I started by buying 6 purp hybrid clones. I'm growing hydroponically, using coco as a medium. I started with a 24" T5 with 4 bulbs, full spectrum, and just bought a used 400 w HID to use for flowering. I'm using Van De Zwaan Cocos A/B for nutes, and am watering by hand right now, planning on setting up a timered drip system.

My grow space is elevated, but underneath the stairs going up to our units. I live in San Francisco, in a 2 unit house, shared with upstairs renters. The house is fairly new, so electricals and venting are modern. The space is about 3 1/2 feet wide by 8 feet tall and very deep, so I just cordoned off the back, and am in the process of making it closet sized, about 3 feet deep. I'm keeping it semi-stealth because security isn't really an issue.

I just started the flower cycle on Halloween, and am busy adding stages to my grow room. Will post more info as I go along.

Meanwhile, here's a pic of my patch...so far, so good!

Big Bud under T5 - First Try

Hello All,

This Is my First attempt at growing mj, and I Hope you all can help if I get into to much trouble... Anyways, I Writing this a good way into the grow as I just joined the group a couple of days ago. I Have 4 plants starting ther second week in flower (12/12) the strain is sensi big bud and I started with clones from a friend that were about 10" tall. I'm Growing in cabinet I built from plywood that has a grow chamber with internal dimension of 30 inches x 24 inches x 60 inches and contains 2 Two Site Auto pot systems ( A total of 4 two gallon sites). Next to the grow chamber are two 14 inch wide x 24 inch deep chambers one on top of the other. The top one houses My Auto pot Resevoir and act as supply duct to a 5 inch inline blower, the lower one is the exhaust plenum and contains a 200 cfm carbon filter. My lighting is provided buy an 8 bulb 2 foot T5 fixture with 3 HO cool bulbs and 5 HO warm bulbs installed.

A Little history:

I got the clones from a friend who was growing in soil and top watering, I Had decided to use the autopots with a 50/50 mix of cocoa coir and perlite, and was afraid to introduce his soil into my media. When I transplated the first plant a tried to wash the soil off the roots before I inserted into the new media. This did not go well, and it just seemed awfully "invasive" so I chickened out on the remaining three and just transplated them soil and all into the coir/perlite.

When I put the plants in there new home I had to fill the resevoir but was afraid to add nutes to the water thinking that might be too agressive. I decided to use straight water for a few days because I belived that would be safe, besides I didn't have a ph kit yet and plain water couldn't hurt them, Right? Wrong! I later Found out that my tap water is about 7.8! Oops! After a few days the plants started turning yellow ang browing from the leaf tips in and form the bottom up, What I Now know was a severe case of nute lock-out. After adjusting the ph of the water and phasing in nutes Three of the plants recovered well (the three I transplanted with the soil) and the fourth was surviving, barely. I Continued to veg the plants for two weeks because I did not want flower them when they were in poor health, and once they started showing significant new growth and were using water faster I changed there photo period and started flowering. I was a rough start but things seem to be looking up now!

As Soon As I can find My Camera charger, I'll Take some pics and post them. If any one wants further info on my cabinet, I could post drawings as well.

Thanks in advance for any advice, comments, questions or ridicule you may provide!

The bigger plants are bagseed from a bag of really skunky pressed weed, about three weeks old, the smaller ones are about a week or so behind them, they are a more elite strain that was a gift from a friend..don't know the name, but was assured they were not bagseeds.
They are growing in 2 gallon grow bags, soilless mix, and we use botanicare ferts. Pureblend Pro TBE.

here's my last attempt with this strain. I love the flavor and effect of this weed but i've yet to grow it without seed. this is my fourth grow with this stuff. I'm using 2 gal pots this time switched from 3-4 gal in my previous grows. The plants are definately scrawnier this time. These girls are five weeks into flower and there under a 600wHPS.

SSH x Bubba Kush BUD !!!

Hello,

I took 5 minutes to post.
Little Grow of culture I have not taken many pictures.
I have worked with Bubba Kush this winter. Nice genetic but not killer !
Just nice ! nice taste ! nice resistence but for me it is far of Chemdawg ...

I kept no mother plant. no interest. but I kept the male pollen. SSH is a very good genetics. pollination with 3 moms SSH!
2 females are in late bloom. but a female is over. Interesting phenomenon. My Box 1) 250x HPS there Chemdawg!
My Box 2) 250w lamp is broken. I cycle with a 150W HPS lamp ....
my emergency light! The result is fun!
I'm surprised. not by the size of the plant! (fertilize with organic fertilizer, fish emulsion) but by time.
Plant has completed 59 days of flowering ???
SSH is long flowering ...
Bubba Kush also ...
But here. This phenomenon is finite has 59 days ???
Big surprise for me ....:)
SSH was derived of work done in 2008: Super Silver Haze female Mr Nice hybridize with G13 x Skunk male. Fun ...
but not super killer ! Here I have taken 3 females SSH x G13 x Skunk and pollen Bubba Kush.
from the start the genetics was strong on the 3 females.

More vigorous than Chemdawg.
I will post (for the fun) 2, 3 pictures of the plant small & 2, 3 pictures of the plants over !

*First photo of the Box ! *
The little box with the lamp 150W HPS ...

First real grow attempt

Hi all

I will soon be starting my first real grow. Before this I have had one grow attempt and all though it turned out poorly it was a great learning experience. Now that I have had much time and a lot of study here at GP and have bought my essentials I am almost ready to begin a well informed and educated grow. I have my lights, digital humidifier, Fan, nutes, various sized pots, Soil, heater etc for my grow. I have only one more thing to get before I begin and that is a camera so I can visually keep every one here in the loop as it were. I will be growing Seeds obtained from HighGrade seeds the strain is called Avalanche (40% Indica-60% Sativa). Once I get my camera I will start the germ process and go from there.
On another note I found a use for some thing that others here may find of interest. I was looking around for a reflective material for the walls and ceiling of my closet, Mylar being my first choice but did not want to buy a huge and costly roll of the stuff. I was in Canadian Tire and low and behold in the camping section there were the emergency blankets made of Mylar. They are inexpensive, less than $4 CND and are 50ish" wide and 80ish" long. a couple of those, a utility knife for trimming and a staple gun go along way.
I am so excited to begin I can barley wait. It is kind of like a kids excitment on the day before Christmas, You know great, wonderful and exciting thngs are waiting just around the corner.
I should have at least a stand in camera this week and start every thing by Friday or Saturday.

I recently decided to sprout some big ol' beans from this really expensive bag that a friend bought last year. It was about 400 an oz, disgustingly pricey but hell, I didn't pay for it. All five germinated and were put in peat plugs and have since began growing fairly nicely. It has only been about three days since being planted and they are all about two inches tall now. I plan on doing my first DWC grow with these and am praying that I get at least one girlie out of the deal. After I get new air stones (the ones I have were for five gallon buckets and are about four inches too long for the two gallon ones I bought) I will set up the buckets and hopefully be off and running. I use a 150watt HPS through my whole grow with a ton of supplemental fluorescent lighting to include both t-8 and cfl's. I'm hoping with the switch from soil I can avoid some of the overbearing issues I had last time with mites and gnats. I have scrubbed the little closet and surrounding areas with a bleach mix, and have also applied a spray to the walls and floor to help prevent infestation. I'll try to get some pics up soon, but they are still really small. Any input, or suggestions, or tips or stuff like that would be cool.

Mini harvest Master Kush-lowryder2 and skunk/haze update

Hi folks, this is my second time around typing this, so forgive the lack of humor. :dunce: Awright; so I quick dried a bit of lady kush last night and loved how she was, although trichwise, she tells a cloudy story with only the tiniest amber lining. She's somewhere between 58 and 66 days flowering. 66 since 12/12 and first signs of sex, even though they stuck around from a sexing attempt early on. Your guess is as good as mine when to start the count, so I go by the trichs, even being nervous that some strains have a devil of a time getting amber at all. I hope this isn't one. She's still putting out white hairs, so I decided to cut this one grizzly little top and let the rest of the buds on her branch take over the lead. They seemed to be the most active on the plant, so I thought they might take the bait and go toward the light. The branch weighed 13g only, so little after drying. Hell, I'm extatic.

The under the table grow is going peachily, smelly, too. The front left plant is the 20 day old fem lowryder2, next to her, a seedling 10days old of the same, back left the one of three master kush clones from mama in the closet that I'll put into flower with these guys, and the sativa is skunk/haze at 20 days, all under 200w cfl. Whenever Mom's done, one week or so, these four get put under MH and cfl in the closet for a week or two and off we go flowering the haze and clone. They'll have had over a month's veg time, and the autoflowerers should be slamming by the time I put them all to 12/12. I wonder if that will give the lowryders a boost or speed them to early finish or something.

I have the newly cut top hanging in a dark closet. What are the best drying techniques? Simple, please!:dunce::dunce:

Master Kush Smoke Report - Holy Crap.

Whoa Nelly. The master kush mama in the flower closet has just shown her first amber trichs, so I took a small bud to taste... whoa. I smoke spliffs, so with tobacco, not so strong as pure, but does the job for disc pain, otherwise I'm incoherent, and tend to use too many commas,.:dunce:

I'm halfway through a joint, and if this is her power at all cloudy, I can't wait to see what she's like at some amber! I have a feeling I won't have to let her get 50/50, if she were any stronger, plus couch lock, she might be devastating. As it is, after half a tiny bud, my body is energized and a couple of inches taller, lighter, somebody put earmuffs on me with tiny hidden speakers that make summer evening insect twitterings, like the delicate bursting of millions of seltzer bubbles over a sunset sea. I feel like I could do the mashed potato.

Got these seeds from Buy Dutch Seeds, and this is the only one didn't go male on me. Let me see if i can get it together to post a picture. She's drying out from a flush I gave her last week, leaves are all curled and dying, between her nitrogen vampiring and heat, overwatering at one poitn and lousy soil, I think. Buds have all sprouted new round of white hairs, looking gnarly, buds growing claws, powdering up nicely (see? The commas?!) Methinks a week should do her, then I can put the next round; 2 fem lowryder2, Master Kush clone and a skunk haze of whom I don't yet know the sex (We're throwing caution to the wind and doing the bedroom in pink ;)., in the closet under mh and cfl.

Cheers to you for helping me get this far!:dunce:gv

There are a couple of generations going right now, overlapping grows, just out of enthusiasm I guess!

So, to go backwards, the lady in the closet is finishing I think, in a week; cloudy trichomes all over, not one amber. She looks like hell, though is not quite as yellow as she seems under hps. I'd love harvest advice, because the buds are getting pretty gnarly; see pics. I don't know if the curling, drying and yellowing of the leaves is due to nitrogen sucking on the plant's behalf, or maybe something else. See captions under photos.

Then, awaiting the aforementioned closet and the warm blue of the 250mh, are three of her clones, and three seedlings 2 weeks old; the bigger lowryder 2 and the Skunk. Under the dome, there is a week old lowryder two ready to come into soil and another that hasn't popped up yet, and who may have gotten zapped by soil nutrients. The others all went through peat's root development camp.

I've only got room in my closet for four girls (under 250 hps and 250cfl red), so I'm preparing to move at least 2 lowryder2, the skunk and one MK clone under there. the future will reveal the plan; I don't know the sex of the skunk yet, and i don't know if I have a third lowryder yet, so no sweat. I wait, we all veg a bit, mama finishes up, and then we'll see who goes in the closet. The clones may hang under the desk until the lowryder finishes and then go under with the skunk when there's some space. No hurry. No worry.

The albums are here:dunce:

Aerogarden Grow Pt. 1

This is my second attempt at the Aerogarden, the first was unfortunately unsuccessful. The first attempt was going good for a while. The first problem that occurred was height. As anyone who has used the Aerogarden knows you are limited on how tall your plants can get, because of this I had to take out one of my babies. That was terrible, then my roommate gave me the idea to look for a cord with the same plug as the one for the Aerogarden light and I found one at RadioShack!! This was great; the plant that I had left looked beautiful and healthy, until the thrips came.

So now I have decided to try it again, but with some differences, so we will see. The first time I was growing in the closet out in the open, this time I will have the Aerogarden in its own container in the closet.

_Supplies_
· 1 Sterelite 3’ Plastic Cabinet (Target)
· 1 Aerogarden 6 Space Saver (Bed, Bath & Beyond)
· 1 Tomato Seed Kit (Bed, Bath & Beyond)
· 1 Extended Cord for light (Radio Shack)
· 2 four inch fans (Target)
· 1 ten inch fan (previously had)
· 1 pack carbon filters (Target)
· 3 zip ties (previously had)
· Pocket knife, nail and a screw driver
· 1 multi plug extension cord
· 1 fish tank timer (PetSmart)

I cut two holes in the Sterilite Cabinet with the pocket knife, one on top for a 4” fan and one on the bottom for the 10” fan. I used the nail and screwdriver to make holes in the plastic big enough for zip ties to strap the top fan to the cabinet, then taped the carbon filters to both holes so that both the air going in and coming out is cleaner. I put the other 4” fan inside the cabinet for circulation. I followed the direction for setting up the Aerogarden that came with it except I had the light plugged into its own timer.

I planted three seeds. I left the light off until the seed germinated and sprouted up. Two of the three seeds sprouted so I quickly replaced the dud and covered up the dome so that no light would show through until it sprouted. It is now day eight and all three have sprouted and look healthy. I started them with the normal 18/6 light cycle, until I read in another forum about 12/12 from seed. I read that it is possible to grow them like this, then I remembered that I planted some outdoor plants (which got stolen… bummer) at the end of February which were on a 12/12 cycle. For you northerners, don’t worry, its warm enough here at the end of Feb. for outdoors… lol… I decided to have the light on at night, since that’s when it’s the coolest in my house. I read that you can yield up to one gram per watt of light. So I guess we shall see.

As the great Kat Williams once said, “Wish me luck… Rarrr!”
