Prepping material for oil question.

Howdy Friends,
I am getting ready to start my first batch of oil and have a few questions that I hope to find answers for.
I have ground a bunch of material in hopes that it may help extract more thc and that brings up my first question. Do you think by grinding it will help me get a better yield of thc content in the oil?
I bought a bunch of Isopropyl Alcohol and just noticed it is only 70% and that the inactive ingredient is water! After reading about what water does to alcohol when refining... it kinda throws up a flag and that brings me to my second question. Will the 70% alcohol work? If not... what is the best alcohol I can use that can be purchased at a liquor store?
Will soaking the material in whatever solution I use for a long period of time work better or does simply mashing it for a few minutes suffice?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Best drying method? Master Kush harvested today!

Hi, everyone! drums.gif It's d-dayiconchef.gif!

Here're some pics of the "harvest", only 65 grams wet after cleaning the buds for drying. Hatch was right on! He took a look at a picture a week ago and said "looks like you have about 73 grams wet, so maybe 22 dry" and if I hadn't been tasting every day, he'd a been on the bullseye of the bullseye. Amazing. Thanks for your presence, here, bro. You've become my anxiety barometer; if you worry, I know I should worry.

Her trichs looked all cloudy under hps light with an occasional amber, but when I took her out, I could see she was easily 25% amber and had a lot of new green growth and pistils on the lower buds. It looks like she would've made a comeback if I'd left her another week, but I needed the closet for the impatient girls that are in there now, and as it is, she kicks tuckus. Due to all my picking at her, she finished with 3 colitas out of 8 or 9 (I know! A little patience, whoa-oo-hey-yeah, just a little patience-you nugget pilfering squirrelwall.gif!). The yield woulda been 3x mas chevere than it is.

Drying-After reading the faqs and posts on it, I've just put them gingerly in a paper bag to dry on a closet shelf. Is this OK? I don't have a drying screen or separate space for drying, so I chose this. Any opinions?

New grow- It's an auspiscious time! Out from under the desk, where they basked in 24h 200cfl watts, I repotted the 2 lowryder 2 feminized (the bigger of which showed her first pistils yesterday!), the skunk haze (sex as yet undetermined) and the Master Kush clone that will go in to flower with those three. In the pics, you see the grow space, about 2 x 2 w/ good height (grown 5 foot sativas in there!), a 250 MH and 250red spec cfl that's mainly on the lowryders (25 and 14 days, now). They'll now go to 18/6 for a week or two to bulk up before flowering the Kush and Haze (25 days, too). I've recently repositioned my fan to graze the tops of the plants while aiming at the light, and that's what helped the mama to regenerate, I think. She was suffering from the heat and change of light type, IMO. Finally realizing that temp and humidity and other considerations I used to take lightly are truly important, I got a humidity/temp gauge and I'm at 76f with the door of the closet opened a bit, 80-81 with it closed; so I'll try to keep it cracked. the humidity climbs from 43% to 50-something if close the door for an hour... best not to leave it closed I guess:rain:. Never had mold or pests, though.

So that's where we stand, folks. Growing up a bit as a grower, though with typical foot-dragging. Oh, for detail junkies; just repotted in Atami light mix, with very little NPK nutrients so i can add the BioBizz fr flowering and leach the remaining nutrients from the Atami Kilo mix (Dutch stuff) and Bio grow that I used for vegging. Don't need to add any nutrients, strong NPK ferts in the soil, so haven't yet, besides one time Root juice. I'll add BioBizz BioBloom, TopMax, Bioheaven and Alg-A-Mic as needed. Also bought a PH pen, so now have accurate PH readings! drums.gif No more colorful mess from mixing and testing PH every watering!

All happy news. Happy healing to everyone! gvdawgI wishgif

DIY Butane Honey Oil

[Warning] No type of flame should be used around the outside area you will be making your product!

Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3206.jpg

You will need: A Stainless steel Pipe, threaded on both ends
A Stainless steel Nozzle
An end cap, stainless steel, or PVC
product to concentrate(About an oz)
Pyrex pan
A pan to hold the hot water under the pyrex pan
hot water! Just under boiling
1-2 cans of butane per run.

You start off with a pipe, say 1'' round, long enough for you to hold onto. Make sure its Stainless steel, and has both ends threaded. PVC can work but it can add contaminates to your product. Also grab a end cap, and a nozzle end. Youll need a few stainless steel mesh screens inside of the nozzle. Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3203.jpg Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3210.jpg You then drill a hole into the middle of the cap, just enough to shoot the butane through. Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3212.jpg Make sure you clean out the entire thing before you use it for product! I use salt and Isopropylene alcohol to clean it out. Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3215.jpg You then lightly stuff your product(Broken up, or in nugs...its up to you for preference) into the pipe with the nozzle all the way on so it doesnt fall straight out iconchef.gif Keep doing this until you get to the end, or where your comfortable to finish filling it. twist the cap onto the other side of the pipe, grab your butane, and shoot it through onto a pyrex pan. Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3213.jpg Image: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q272/v0ssman/GEDC3216.jpg This process might take a minute, its better to use a little more butane than to waste the bud..so dont be afraid to spray more than you have to!

Once this process is done, youll have a pool full of Butane oil. Youll then want to poor the almost boiling water into the pan that is going to hold the pyrex dish in the water(This is to Purge the butane from the oil, to get a pure concentrate). Your oil will start to bubble, an let it bubble as long as it wants to! Once it is done bubbling, you can start scraping, or let it hang outside for an hour or two, its up to the consumer iconchef.gif And there you will have Butane Honey oil!

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding when to harvest, i have four healthy girls that go by the name of Big Bang,
out of the four one is way ahead of the others with regards to bud size and Trich amount/colour, the
trichs on this one are almost all milky with some amber. They are an eight week flowering strain and this is
week five and i'm wondering is it possible that this one is for some reason ahead of the others and ready to harvest.

Sorry no pics of Trichs as i dont have a microscope, but looking through an achromatic lens i can see some amber ones.

So do you think it is ready?/

Peace and light

out of the four one is way ahead of the others with regards to bud size and Trich amount/colour, the
trichs on this one are almost all milky with some amber.

Never been much for these kind of things so to jump out here I thought Id share some pictures, seems everyone likes em.
These are just a few random dry bud shots of my strain that Ive been smoking on for a while now ("terror-x3" cut @ 9 weeks flower), its a hybrid and these buds are from the third backcross ( working on the 4th now).

Color and taste becomes more and more prevalent with each backcross while leaf ratio keeps going down. If everything keeps up @ this rate I should achieve my end goal within the next two years.

Flavor is a hashy/resiny sort of taste to it with sweet undertones. Growth is a mix of both varieties pretty evenly, the plants carry sativa build and structure with indica flowering times and stone
