Hey there,

I need to buy a timer for flowering. I've been doing it manually (turning the lights on and off myself) and it's becoming cumbersome. I went to the Home Depot website and typed in "Light timers" and a bunch came up. There were timers for as little as five dollars and some that were as much as thirty dollars. Would a cheaper timer be alright or should I be looking out for specific features?

Thank you,

Hi, I believe I have a case of nute burn and want to know if I can cure it by emptying the resevoir and just using plain distilled water for a little while? If so, how long before I should add the nutrients back into the water? This is a stealth hydro grow planning on LST soon. Thankswall.gif

When I had my 1st grow I just winged it .No info from the net nor books nor anything! all survived because of the chemicals
I used ozimajic grow for the rooting & bugfoot for the main pans but all those grow & bloom formulas are just cost.......all work the same!
I just changed the solution weekly & made a cover for the pans & a hole saw for the baskets & placed a simple fan to blow over the plants...Half of the hype over growing is just that hype!
The timers did all the work & 1/2" to1" of growth per day was outstanding!
You can fool the grow side when the plants get 15" or bigger to put them right away into Bloom!
Now you don't have to wait as long for the Buds!
keep taking clones & cut them at a steep angle so the cuttings are long..& straight away into a nursary solution!
Any time a branch is severed it will cause a sucking motion within the plant so any air can kill it quick!
No its not rocket sience but there are too many websites that try the our way or else sell!
You can buy hose bulkhead fittings & recirculate the solution from buckets to the main pump or just do the solution staticly & change it every week .I also added 2 long fish tank airstones at opposite corners in the solution .This helps as o2 gets injected into the solution!

drums.gifIs it my music? Kidding. It's a skunk/haze plant, 38 days old, not sexed yet, under 18h 250hps and cfl red250, which she doesn't see a lot of. ATAMI kilo-mix and light-mix; Dutch, really nice and light w/perlite and light NPK, if there's any left in the soil. I've added some very light Biobizz flowering nutes, not even 1/4 strength, and I just watered (ph5.8) thinking I've been too strict on their diet, hoping that would perk up those curled leaves. Other possibility s my LSTing her in a circle might be pissing her off a bit. Most f the affected leaves are around the bent areas. Every other plant in there is fat and happy; all indicas with stems that don't give an inch. No training needed, though. I thought she might be too close to the hps, now she's around 13" away, which breaks my heart. The others who are a bit lower down are absolutely kicking out new, fat leaves. The sativa has lots of new, lighter-green growth and her stems are making up for lost time, heading toward the light only to one day lose their feathers and fall into the bud pile! Anyhow, I thought maybe the forced growth of those other stems due to the LST was tiring out the higher leaves somehow, but my intuition says that's crap, she should be healthier looking somehow.
You can see on the flowering plant on the right, lowryder2, her top leaves are clawing a bit down, but every one of them has no discoloration, and they seem to have dug today's watering and perked up a bit more, if that's possible. Nothing doing with those curled leaves. She wanting nutes? I don't htink so, but you'd know better. LSTing get her mad enouh to go hermie, you think?
whaddya think, youse? wall.gif

PS The last pic is of the Master kush I'm smoking now, from last harvest, just dried!

PPS If I want to post in multiple places at once without copying and pasting, how would I do that?

Muchas gracias, gv:pns:

Hey everyone this will be my first time growing i have made a overall list of what i am going to be getting and using for my first official grow. I have experimented several times for 3 to 4 months each plant i did, just to see how well i could do with cannabis Sativa being that i have a green thumb when it comes to other plants. All had turned out pretty good.
I have just a few questions i need answered before i get started and find out im missing something i need. (also this will be a Soil Grow)

Here's what i have so far written down to get

2-Heavy Duty lockable metal storage cabinets- Dimensions Height, 78" Depth,24" and width, 48" 1 for vegetation, clones, and mothers. The other cabinet is for flower
2- Digital Electronic 400 watt HPS and MH Ballasts (switchable)
2- Cool Tube Reflectors
2- 265 CFM ActiveAir Blower Systems
2-Reflective material Mylar or Black & white Poly- (undecided) Which is best
4-Timers
Carbon Air Filters Will be DIY

Things i already have.
2- 430watt Super HPS Enhanced Spectrum- additional lighting for flowering to make some nice tops and Buds I want them Dense and compact
1- heating mat for starting seeds and clones if needed

If there is anything else i could use that i missed let me know Co2 is out the question for now but i plan to get it in the future
-however i might do the DIY Co2 so i dont have to cut a bunch of holes into the metal cabinets i want to keep it as clean as possible

Here are just a few pictures of what I'm getting.
I will have a few more questions i will ask right here instead of doing a whole new thread if you don't mind

Turn a female clone into a male to produce pollen to other females? " stress the plant " even to turn it to a hermie..
Is this possible?..

I just ordered a shit load of seeds from attitude and there all females seeds except for 1 or 2 but I dont want to use thos if there males to clone females..

I got 7 auto's for my room.. I will have the light on 18/6 meaning all my other non auto's will be in veg for 2 months.. THEN put into flower once I take clones off the female plants..

I have an aereo setup.. 3 totes.. 17 holes per tote.. I have 2 quantum digi 600 watt lights that will be in the room.. BUT as of right NOW I have a 400watt light that will get them started.. In a month I will have enough to have 2 quantum light's..

If not then I will just clone the shit out of my regular female seeds....
Let them get big enough then throw them into flower.. I have 8 foot celings.. SO height doesnt matter.. The shelf that the totes are sitting on is about 6-7 feet long.. 2 " 600 watt digi " lights should be able to handle the 3 totes...about 12-24 inches away from the plants maybe a little bit more.. I can only afford to put 2 lights in this room..

Any help would be greatful Thank you...

was wondering about repotting durng the first 4 weeks of flowering. I have done it in the past and the plants seem to take off, but was wondering what everyone thought. I usually finish my plants in 3 gal pots with about 30-36" tall plants at the end of flowering. I currently have a plant in a 2 gal pot because i ran out of the 3 gal. it has been flowering for 3.5 weeks and seems to be doing well(its not root bound). Is it worth repotting at this point, or should i just leave it in the smaller pot and see how it does.

Hi

I have a plant that has very large female flowers(about 3 x the size of my other plants), but they are very sparse on the on the main cola. I have had a good look and I cant see any male flowers and every flower has the two hairs coming out. All my other plants have buds that look like they should and are fattening up like they should. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks

250w or 400w ballist ?

Hello.... I'm beginning to build 2' x 3' x 7'tall cab. Plan on a SCROG for MM for one person. I believe I'll not need more than 250w or 400w of HPS & MH in the vegging / flowering chamber.

My question is; I'm fixin' to order Lumatek ballast and wondering if it's ok to run a 250w bulb on a 400w, or even a 600w ballast? I'm just thinking that latter on I might want to increase the growing area and won't have to buy another ballast. What are the considerations?

Thanks everyone... I'm learning LOTS studying GreenPassion !

I'm not sure I have this in the right place.
My question is as I'm new to soil grow, I have 3 plants in 3 gallon pots. I'm using Fox Farm soil mix and FF grow big. 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water PH 6.0 to 6.5. I water with a small bathroom cup (2cups every 3 days. I do see seepge from the bottom of the pot. After 3days I stick my finger in the soil down to my knuckle and the soil is dry. I got a moisture meter from the local plant store trying to be sure I wasn't overwatering.
My question is, if If sink the meter to the bottom of the pot the last inch or so at the bottom reads wet. I'm afraid I'm going to rot my roots.
Any help or advice would sure be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

where can you get male poling to germinate female plants?

i just watched some video of a guy holding a tube of it while explaining how to create your own strains.

I'm getting my equipment together for my first grow. I am going to pick up the last few odds and ends right now. I'm excited, but the closer I get to the start, the more nervous I get. I have spent the last few weeks reading as much as possible here on the forums. It's all been great information, but it also made me realize how much I don't know.

Anyone else get an overwhelmed feeling when getting ready for their first grow?

Peace.

P.s. I am going to start a journal as soon as I get the seeds germinated. I know nothing, so please share any help you are willing to give.

Hello everybody! I have successfully raised 6 females from seed, they are looking pretty good and healthy. Now my question is how much will they grow in the flowering stage. The reason i ask is because I need them to be as big as possible but i have a height restriction.

Nutrient availability is pH dependent so it definitely matters. Cannabis can tolerate a wide pH range, but does best between 6.2 & 6.8 in soil/less media and 5.8 - 6.0 in hydroponic media. There are two pH's that matter; that of the water going into the system and that of the root zone. Measuring the pH of the root zone can be difficult in soil/less media since the probes often require that a media-water slurry be made. The pH of the runoff water is often measured as an estimate of the actual acidity/alkalinity of the medium. In my experience, this estimate is good enough.

How do I measure pH?
The best way is a wateproof digital pen. These are typically accurate to 0.1 or better and cost anywhere from $20 to several hundred dollars. Hydroponic growers need this accuracy as the pH range is much more narrow than that of soil/less media.

Dipsticks can be had that change color for comparison against a chart. They typically have an accuracy of about 0.5. pH paper, also sold as nitrazine paper measures by color change as well and is also accurate to about 0.5. They are sold for around $10.

Kits that use a sample of water into which a couple drops of "developer" are added are the least desirable devices. They depend upon comparing the color of the water sample to a chart and are often only accurate to 1.0. If the water sample is not colorless before adding the developer, the kit's accuracy will be skewed from the beginning. These are available for about $5.

Do I measure pH before or after adding nutrients, etc to the water?
Add everything to the water and mix it well, then measure the pH. Nutrients, growth stimulants, etc will alter the pH, so it's best to adjust it right before the water is applied to the plants.

I've added all the stuff to my water and the pH is x.x, what now?
If growing in a soil/less medium the pH should be approximately 6.5 and in hydroponic media the pH should be about 6.0 before application.

To lower the pH an acid must be added to the water and to raise the pH a base must be added. There are products available on the shelf called "pH up" & "pH down". They work well. There are also household products that will accomplish the same goal.
Household "pH downs"
Vinegar (white distilled, apple cider, wine...)
Lemon juice
Household "pH ups"
Tap water (my preference) Municipal water is often pH'd above 7.0 to improve palatability (taste).
Baking Soda (NOT baking powder)
WARNING
Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. Its use can cause problems so I advise against it. It works well in a pinch AND when used infrequently. Increased sodium concentration in the medium displaces K and may cause a condition appearing as K deficiency. There is a maxim in chemistry which states "water follows sodium"; if the sodium concentration in the medium is high, water can actually be wicked AWAY from the roots causing wilt.

How much pH up or pH down do I add to change the pH of my water by 1.0?
That all depends upon the quality of the initial water sample. Quality is determined by ppm/tds/ec measurement. Water samples with lower ppm/tds/ec measurements will require LESS acid or base to change the pH of the sample as compared to those with higher tds/ppm/ec numbers. "Hard water" will have high tds/ppm/ec.

Regardless of what a product's label states, some trial and error has to occur. The manufacturer can't know the purity of any given water sample.

Add a little of the product, mix well, and measure the pH. Once you get the pH in the proper range note the amount of product you added. Next time add that amount to your water and measure to see if the pH comes out in the same range. Once you've reproduced the pH several times you can safely put the pH meter away until the plants shows signs of distress. That said, any time the source of water changes OR the additives change (different brand, new additive, etc) the same procedure will need to be performed.
Much appreciated info from CaliGrower:
I wouldn’t recommend using a probe that you place in the soil. The pH pens are much more accurate.

Here are the methods of testing your soil pH. I’ve put both methods here, but the one I use and the one you’ll most likely want to use is the runoff method because it’s much faster and easier to do. After you get a handle on what’s happening with your pH you can dial in your soil and nutrient regiment so you won’t need to test the pH very often.

Both methods below will work. I put the “collecting soil sample” tutorial because it’s considered to be the only real scientific way of testing the soil pH. I’ve found the runoff method to be very reliable if done correctly, and again, it’s the one I use.
Collecting soil and mixing with distilled water method:

Soil Sample Preparation

1. Calibrate the pH pen.

2. Scoop up loose soil samples with a clean, dry plastic
spoon. Avoid touching the soil with your hands to prevent contaminating the sample. Take soil sample as deep as possible without affecting roots.

3. Remove any stones and crush any clumps of soil.

4. Fill up your sample soil up to 3/4 and add distilled water to the jar. Cap the jar tight and shake it vigorously a few times. Let the mixed sample stand for 5-10 minutes to dissolve the salts in the soil.

5. Dip the pH pen electrode into the wet soil slurry. Take the reading when it stabilizes.

6. Rinse your pH pen thoroughly in clean water between each use.

Soil pH Data
The pH test value in this procedure is accurate to ±0.5 pH or better (usually ±0.2 pH). The soil sample preparation and test procedure is adapted from accepted laboratory methods. Most soil pH measurement cannot achieve ±0.1 pH accuracy, even with elaborate laboratory procedures and expensive pH instruments.

Recommendations for Best Results
Prepare and run at least three tests of the same soil sample to confirm results. Minor (< ±0.2 pH) or no differences between readings indicate good technique and high confidence in results. Larger differences (> ±0.5 pH) require more testing.
Testing runoff after watering method:

1. Use distilled or reverse-osmosis water. This is inert water that will readily take on the active soil pH.

2. Do not adjust the pH of the water being used for the test, as that will buffer the results in the direction of the pH adjustment.

3. Scuff the surface of the soil to allow for uniform wetting and drainage of the soil.

4. Poor water in slowly until the soil is saturated with water. You may get a small amount of runoff, but it’s best to just saturate the soil.

5. Wait 30 minutes. Chill out and smoke one.

6. Add the amount of water that will give you a small concentrated amount of runoff.

7. Test the runoff.

I like to see that the runoff, for my soil anyway, is rust colored. That lets me know that there are a lot of constituents of the soil present in the sample as opposed to a more clear runoff that would be indicative of the water running down the side of the pot or not filtering nicely through the medium. In other words, get that water dirty.

HELP!!!!!!
Hello, and thanks ahead for your time and patients. My main concern is with a big buddha seeds blue cheese strain. Its 2 months old, grown from seed. This plant has been topped, and took a while to start growing again but other than that everything seemed ok. I had over fed this plant a little bit, the bottom two leafs and the leaf tips had turned yellow (atleast that's what I think that I did.) I am feeding this plant advance nutrients grow, micro, bloom, and botanicare fulvex (fulvic acid) grow and micro at @ 2 l per 2 liter, bloom @ 0.5 ml per 2 liter and fulvex @ 4 ml per 2 liter. I was originally using well water but i bought a ph and ppm meter and it tested 8.3 ph and 345 ppm. So I started using distilled. The finale ppm of my nutes in distilled is around 530. Also after mixing I have been using lemon juice to bring the ph down around 6.5. I bought one of those soil ph probes at lowes for like $10 but I don't think it works because it read lemon juice as a 6.0 when lemon juice is around 2.3. I have't tried testing the soil with my digital meter because the only direction I could find was (add some dirt to some water, wait 10 minutes, test the water.) Anyway, now the bottom leaves are completely yellow, the tips of every single leaf is yellow, the plant overall has become lighter, and reddish brown spots have appeared. some of my other plants are developing these spots to along with a lightening of new growth but don't have tips that are as severely yellowed. since this problem is more or less to some degree affecting all of my plants, I am asuming (right or wrong) that it's a nute problem. I have now for the last 6 days only given these plants distilled water. I have no idea what to do now, my research has just led me to realize that I need help from a pro. The sooner that I can get help the better, my babies are sick and the thought of them dying is just too much to bear. thanks.

Ok nvr done this before thought it would be fun, like a rewarding hobby or something.
not doin anything crazy......standard 3 part solution in each, at the moment emphasis on veg....
we are 19 days along here and all youngins have been *FIMMED," seems early to do it but the plants have responded well and quickly it would seem.
3x9 foot crawl space in loft, sexy, no extra special lighting yet,
flouros "plant growth" walmart to start (19days) 2x48" and just added 4 65w cfls with sweet reflectors i made that own, over 1 unknown and 2 kush, and the aerogardens rockin 2 unknown white seeds with a green top and some w. hights haze.
have had them at 16d 8n lite cycle for low stress 2 fans by the base of the ground swirling air in the space and have introduced CO2 3 times so far
ok. so what im inquiring of the interested population is this, i want plants at harvest to be no taller than 34" each and all have 7 - 10 colas, ive seen it done on a natural dirt grow and the single plant yielded over 4 zipps i feel like that would be mastering the plant for a confined area help me out here how do i achieve this yeild at that hieght 19 days in......if theyre 3 times bigger at harvest wen am i lookin at light change and cycle change? ? ?

So i'll be moving again and getting my card back and others for family. My first time growing indoors, the area is 10'x10' and a separate area for mothers. I plan on splitting the 10x10 into 5x5 for autoflowering and the other side for larger plants. would i be able to get away using high quality 42" t8 shop lights overhead, with clamp or power strip cfls ran along underneath for additional light. and then later add 2 1000w hps, and would it be fine to mix hps and cfl/fluoro tubes during flower? thanks in advance, sorry if i made it confusing.

So I was looking for a specific plant that I couldn't find anywhere except one place that is usually the haunt of younger crowds and I was iffy about it, but my want outweighed it and I went for it. So far so good, no problems yet but... They sent me a freebie. Great, a freebie...it's dna lemon skunk...great again. It's one little stinking feminized seed. eeeerrrrrrkkk (puts breaks on). I have never touched fem'ed seeds before. I have always been told to stay as far as possible from fem'ed seeds because they screw up the genetics and hermie out on you. I want to grow this seed, but I'm afraid it'll hit my other plants. I can wait till my current grow is finished and then throw it in 12/12, by itself, but I want to know what every one else experience is first. I don't know how to reliably remove pollen from my grow room if it explodes either.

I've been browsing several seedbanks looking for seeds for my next grow.
I grew a few plants this year from seeds brought from Pakistan. I dried my buds and tried smoking them. The smoke was harsh and didn't really do much. Then I tried the butter made with budleaves, nothing except that my cheeks turned numb and couldn't stop eating. Then I tried Green Dragon made with Gin, it made me restless yet very drowsy.
This was not what I expected. What I really want is soothing and relaxing sensation. What strain should I choose for my next grow? Any suggestions?

Hey all, so I’m at that point where it's time to cut her down and dry her out! :) After reading many posts on here, I’m planning on just hanging her up in a rubber maid bin, with a fan in it, near a humidifier and put that on about 50-60% for about a week. I've decided to cure with a brown paper bag for several weeks after that but my question about that is should I be cautious about the buds touching in the brown bags, such as spreading them as far apart to avoid bud rot? Also when I hang them can I just hang the entire stalk or would u guys recommend cutting the stalk down a bit and separating them? Any input or advice would be great, I’m very excited since it's my first grow! iconchef.gif
Thanks guys!

hello again everyone,
I am goning to try again...
first i built a grow room that is 12'x10'. i converted 4' off the inside wall for my veg room. i have two 4' t12 light ballist that hold 4 bulbs a peice, (is their any difference between sun bulbs and regular soft light bulbs other than the price?) that will be hung 18'' from the plant.
for my grow room i have two 400watt balliast, (i am thinking about having one MH bulb and one HPS bulb or should i stick with the same type of bulb during flowering)
the plants themselves will be housed in 10 five gallon buckets with a hydroponic setup. i have decided to go with airoponics, because i had a lot of the equipment already. this site has helped my more than any one else has. the links, videos, and guides that i have found are priceless.
and i wanted to say thankyou too all.shakehands.gif

P.S. i will be getting a camra soon, and i will post some pic's. it will probaly be after the first of january.

Hello all. I have been reading a lot of great information here and am starting to design a small grow room. I am going to try a DWC system (in part because it sounds like a fun project to put together and tinker with). I have purchased some of the parts for the system at Wal-Mart, Home Depot and the local garden store. I have plenty of clean space in my basement to set up the room. The area has 10' ceilings and no light intrusion. It is also very private.

I am going to start with only a 2-3 plant system since I will just be growing for my own use. My question is what kind of lighting should I be looking to get. I have read a lot, but I find myself more confused than ever. It seems like it might be easier to purchase a complete lighting system (I don't mind spending the extra money for good lights that work especially since I am building the rest of the system). I have looked at HTGSupply Digital Electronic Ultimate 400 watt HPS & MH Grow light system. Can anyone tell me if I am looking in the right ballpark for a small grow? Has anyone had any experience with this type of system? Any advice or alternatives.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Peace.

The plants look healthy, but like I said no roots. I know people use heat mats for rockwool, so the same must apply for h20, right? Please help
