Organics for Beginners
Here are some tried and true recipes for getting started in organic growing. Pick one of the first two soiless mix recipes for your grow medium. Then, choose a nute recipe that will work best for what you have available.

Enjoy...

Here are two very good organic soiless mixes...

LC's Mix is great for any stage of growth. You can germ seeds in it, grow mothers in it, root clones in it as well as veg and flower in it.

LC’s Soiless Mix #1:
5 parts Canadian Spaghnam Peat or Coir or Pro-Moss
3 parts perlite
2 parts wormcastings or mushroom compost or home made compost
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
...Wal-Mart now sells worm castings.

Or, if you use Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix...
LC's Soiless Mix #2:
6 parts Pro Mix BX or HP / Sunshine Mix (any flavor from #1 up)
2 parts perlite
2 parts earthworm castings
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
If you use a 3 qt. saucepan as “parts” in the amounts given above, it equals about 1 cu. ft. of soiless mix and you can just dump in a cup of powdered dolomite lime.
But, a "part" can be anything from a tablespoon to a five gallon bucket. Just use the same item for all of the "parts".

Now for the plants organic food source

Choose one of these organic plant food recipes to add to LC's Soiless Mix.

RECIPE #1
If you want to use organic nutes like blood, bone and kelp...
Dry Ferts:
1 tablespoon blood meal per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil mix
2 tablespoons bone meal per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of soil mix
1-tablespoon kelp meal per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil mix or Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract as directed
(OPTIONAL) 1 tablespoon per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of Jersey Greensand to supplement the K (potasium) in the Kelp Meal and seaweed extract.
Mix all the dry ferts into the soiless mix well and wet it, but don't soak it with Liquid Karma and water @ 1 tbs./gal. Stir and mix it a few times a week for a week or two so the bacteria can get oxygen and break down the bone meal and make it available. And don't let the mix dry out, keep it moist and add water as needed. It'll also have time to get the humic acids in the Liquid Karma going and the dolomite lime will be better able to adjust the pH of a peat based mixture too.
With this recipe, all you need to do is add plain water until harvest.
When I'm working with seeds, I punch a hole in the bottom of 16 ounce cups and fill them with plain LC's Mix. Lightly wet the mix in the cups and germ one seed in each cup. At the same time I mix enough LC's mix along with the blood/bone/kelp to fill all the 3 gallon flower pots I'm going to use for the grow. After about two weeks, the seedlings and the blood/bone/kelp mix are ready. I transplant the seedlings into the 3 gallon pots and just add water until harvest.
When you go to flower and pull up the males, save the mix in the pots. It is ready to be used again immediately. Just remove the root ball and transplant another seedling into it.

RECIPE #2
If you want to use guano in your soil mix...
Bongaloid's Guano Mix.
Use all these items combined with one gallon of soil mix.
1/3C hi N Guano (Mexican Bat Guano)
1/2C hi P Guano (Jamaican or Indonesian Bat Guano)
1TBS Kelp Meal
(OPTIONAL) 1TBS Jersey Greensand

RECIPE #3 (My favorite)
If you want to use guano tea and kelp...

Guano Tea and Kelp:

Seedlings less than 1 month old nute tea mix-
Mix 1 cup earthworm castings into 5 gallons of water to make the tea.
Add 5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses.
Use it to water your seedlings with every 3rd watering.

Veg mix-
1/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano (PSG)
1/3 cup High N Bat Guano (Mexican)
1/3 cup Earth Worm Castings (EWC)
5 tsp. Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract
(That makes the "dry mix". You can make all you want and save it to use later.)
Mix with water @ 1 cup of dry mix into 5 gallons of water to make the tea.
To that 5 gallons of tea add:
5 tbs. Liquid Karma
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
Use it to water with every 3rd watering.

Flowering nute tea mix:
2/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano
2/3 cup Earth Worm Castings
2/3 cup High P Guano (Indonesian or Jamaican)
5 tsp. Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract
(That makes the "dry mix". You can make all you want and save it to use later.)
Mix with water @ 2 cups of dry mix into 5 gallons of water to make the tea.
To that 5 gallons of tea add:
5 tbs. Liquid Karma
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
Use it to water with EVERY watering.

You can use queen size knee high nylon stockings for tea bags. 3 pair for a dollar at the dollar store. Tell 'em you use them for paint strainers. Put the recommended tea in the stocking, tie a loop knot in it and hang it in your tea bucket. The tea should look like a mud puddle. Agitate the bag in the water vigorously. An aquarium pump and air stone will dissolve oxygen into the solution and keep the good bacteria (microherd) alive and thriving. Let it bubble a day or two before you use it. If you find you are making too much tea and having to throw it out, use 2 1/2 gallons of water and cut the nute amount by half.

RECIPE #4
Three Little Birds Method
40 gallons used soil
4 cups alfalfa meal
4 cups bone meal
4 cups kelp meal
4 cups powdered dolomite lime
30 pound bag of earthworm castings . . .
That’s the basic recipe . . .
However we also like to use
4 cups of Greensand
4 cups of Rock Phosphate
4 cups of diatomaceous earth

RECIPE #5
Fish and Seaweed (This is sooo easy)

For veg growth…
1 capful 5-1-1 Fish Emulsion
1 capful Neptune's Harvest 0-0-1 Seaweed or Maxicrop liquid
1 gallon H2O

For early flowering…
1 tbs. Neptune’s Harvest 2-3-1 Fish/Seaweed
1 gallon H2O

For mid to late flowering…
1 tbs. Neptune’s Harvest 2-4-1 Fish
1 gallon H2O

And now for some more good tips...

Organic pH issues

I hear a lot of people asking or talking about the pH of their organic soil mix or organic nute solution and how they might correct or adjust it. pH in organics is not an issue like it is in synthetic growing.
The best place to settle the pH issues in organics is within the grow medium. A medium rich in humates (humus) is the place to start. Humates work to "buffer" the pH of organic mediums and the nutes you pour (or mix) into it.
Humates come from compost, worm castings and bottled humus. If you use a peat based medum, use dolomite lime to raise the pH of the acidic peat. Dolomite should be used in any soil or soiless medium to provide magnesium and calcium. But since we are talking about pH here, I'll mention dolomite lime's pH correction benefits.
A medium of coir has a pH near neutral (or 7.0). But humates are still neded to allow uptake of organic nutrients that are outside a near neutral pH range.
With an active medium rich in humates you can pour in nutes like Pure Blend Pro, Earth Juice and guano teas way outside the optimum pH range without worry. The humus will allow the nutes to be taken up through the roots, even at such an extreme pH reading.
So throw those pH meters away folks and enjoy the ease and safety of organic gardening.

Chlorine tap water

Just a word of caution for you organic heads out there...
If you are tapped onto a municipal water supply that uses chlorine to kill bacteria in the water, it'll do the same thing to the bacteria (microherd) in your organic food source.
Always bubble your municipal water in an open container (5 gallon bucket) for 24 hours before adding ANYTHING organic to it.

Flushing

There is absolutely no reason to "flush" organic nute solutions from your soil mix. In an organic grow, the plants don't take up the organic nutes (guano, bone, blood or kelp). The bacteria eat the organic nutes and excrete food that the plant can feed off of. So the organic nutes don't need to be flushed because they never enter the plant. And besides, meals like kelp, bone and blood along with worm castings and dolomite can't be flushed from your soil mix anyway. If you use guano and seaweed, try using plain water or worm casting tea for your last watering or two so the plant can use up what's left in the soil. But drowning your soil with water isn't necessary.

this post has been around for a long time, had it stored on a thumb drive and thought it might be useful to someone starting organic soil grows,i have followed soil mix #2 to a T with recipe #1 for nutes and it was very successful!!! hope this helps someone and good luck growing.

*Marijuana-Related Health Costs Minimal Compared To Those Of Alcohol, Tobacco * Thursday, 19 November 2009 13:40 Press Release Health and Fitness

*Victoria, Canada--(ENEWSPF)--November 19, 2009. *Health-related costs per user are eight times higher for drinkers than they are for those who use cannabis, and are more than 40 times higher for tobacco smokers, according to a report (http://www.heretohelp.bc.ca/publications/cannabis/bck/7) published in the British Columbia Mental Health and Addictions Journal.
According to the report, *"In terms of [health-related] costs per user: tobacco-related health costs are over $800 per user, alcohol-related health costs are much lower at $165 per user, and cannabis-related health costs are the lowest at $20 per user."*
The review, authored by researchers from the Centre for Addictions Research of British Columbia at the University of Victoria and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse at the University of Ottawa, stated: "Alcohol is used by a very large number of people with the vast majority of these using in low- or moderate-risk ways. Conversely, cannabis and tobacco are used by far fewer people. The majority of cannabis use is low- and moderate-risk, however, while the majority of tobacco is high-risk."
The study reported that* "94 percent of social costs for cannabis are linked to [law] enforcement."*
The authors concluded: "The harms, risks and social costs of alcohol, cannabis and tobacco vary greatly. A lot has to do with how the substances are handled legally. Alcohol and tobacco are legal substances, which explains their low enforcement costs relative to cannabis. On the other hand, the health costs per user of tobacco and alcohol are much higher than for cannabis. This may indicate that cannabis use involves fewer health risks than alcohol or tobacco.
"These variations in risk, harms and cost need to be taken into account as we think about further efforts to deal with the use of these three substances. ... Efforts to reduce social costs related to cannabis, for example, will likely involve shifting its legal status by decriminalizing casual use, to reduce the high enforcement costs. Such a shift may be warranted given the apparent lower health risk associated with most cannabis use."
Commenting on the study, NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano, co-author of the book Marijuana Is Safer: So Why Are We Driving People to Drink? (http://www.marijuanaissafer.com/) (Chelsea Green, 2009) said, "It makes no sense for our society to condone, if not encourage, the use of alcohol – an intoxicant that directly contributes to tens of thousands of deaths annually and countless social problems – while simultaneously stigmatizing and criminalizing the use of cannabis, a substance that is incapable of causing lethal overdose and is associated with far fewer societal costs."
According to a recent Rasmussen national poll (http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7965) of 1,000 likely voters, Americans believe by more than two to one that alcohol is "more dangerous" than marijuana.

These are the fixtures I ended up going with (below) to veg with and I also got the compatible 6500K, 85 CRI, 32W, 2800 Lumen, T8 tubes. You think they will be good? The fixture is very reflective metallic. It was by far the fixture that reflected the most light at the Home Depot's I went to. Do you think it may reflect too much light? Is the only way to be sure is to get a light meter?
Thanks,

If so, help. lol The directions at the ebay page are pretty straightforward but I'm trying to figure what the eyelet is for? I don't need the hook, have others way to hook the hanger on but what the heck is the eyelet for? Is this where the string gets tied to? Or do I just tie the string to the refelctor? Tying it bites because the string doesn't seem that long in the first place. Want to hang led lights off them too.

Perpetual harvest : Big Bud VS AK-47

Hello guys

I'm caught up between 2 strain choices, big bud and ak-47

big bud ; 60 days ready
ak-47 ; 45 days ready

SO ;
Am I right to say that, for the same g/watt or g/sqft ratio, I'd rather choose the ak-47 ?

Because spaced by 2 weeks, I would harvest 1/4 of my tent every 2 weeks with the big bud

But with ak-47, that would be 1/3 of the tent every 2 weeks, right?

Any pertinent comment or opinion welcome, as to what's the best choice for best yield

Using salton yogurt maker to germ and ?

I have a vintage Salton yogurt maker, 5 holes, it has a plastic base and clear plastic cover. I used it years back when I was into making my yogurt instead of buying it. Now I get it from WallyWorld.

Anyhow, yogurt makes at 108 to 112 F ( not sure of C... )

I read of heat mats being used for germing and assorted other warming tasks in the grow garden.

I would like to hear some opinions for possible use with the above mentioned temperature in mind. I will post up a couple pics of the thing...

THANKS!

Peace,

Pete thinking.gif

Mammograms at 50, Not 40

*Most women should start regular breast cancer (http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/breast-cancer/overview.html?inline=nyt-classifier) screening at age 50, not 40, according to new guidelines released Monday by an influential group that provides guidance to doctors, insurance companies and policy makers.

**The new recommendations, which do not apply to a small group of women with unusual risk factors for breast cancer, reverse longstanding guidelines and are aimed at reducing harm from overtreatment, the group says. It also says women age 50 to 74 should have mammograms (http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/test/mammography/overview.html?inline=nyt-classifier) less frequently — every two years, rather than every year. And it said doctors should stop teaching women to examine their breasts on a regular basis.*

*Just seven years ago, the same group, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstfab.htm), with different members, recommended that women have mammograms every one to two years starting at age 40. It found too little evidence to take a stand on breast self-examinations.*

*The task force is an independent panel of experts in prevention and primary care appointed by the federal Department of Health and Human Services (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/h/health_and_human_services_department/index.html?inline=nyt-org). *

*Its new guidelines, which are different from those of some professional and advocacy organizations, are published online in The Annals of Internal Medicine (http://www.annals.org/). They are likely to touch off yet another round of controversy over the benefits of screening for breast cancer.*

*Dr. Diana Petitti (http://sci.asu.edu/directory/page.php?profile=794), vice chairwoman of the task force and a professor of biomedical informatics at Arizona State University (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/a/arizona_state_university/index.html?inline=nyt-org), said the guidelines were based on new data and analyses and were aimed at reducing the potential harm from overscreening. *

*While many women do not think a screening test can be harmful, medical experts say the risks are real. A test can trigger unnecessary further tests, like biopsies, that can create extreme anxiety (http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/symptoms/stress-and-anxiety/overview.html?inline=nyt-classifier). And mammograms can find cancers that grow so slowly that they never would be noticed in a woman’s lifetime, resulting in unnecessary treatment. *

*Over all, the report says, the modest benefit of mammograms — reducing the breast cancer death rate by 15 percent — must be weighed against the harms. And those harms loom larger for women in their 40s, who are 60 percent more likely to experience them than women 50 and older but are less likely to have breast cancer, skewing the risk-benefit equation. The task force concluded that one cancer (http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/cancer/overview.html?inline=nyt-classifier) death is prevented for every 1,904 women age 40 to 49 who are screened for 10 years, compared with one death for every 1,339 women age 50 to 59, and one death for every 377 women age 60 to 69. *

*The guidelines are not meant for women at increased risk for breast cancer because they have a gene mutation that makes the cancer more likely or because they had extensive chest radiation. The task force said there was not enough information to know whether those women would be helped by more frequent mammograms or by having the test in their 40s. Other experts said women with close relatives with breast cancer were also at high risk.*

*Dr. Petitti said she knew the new guidelines would be a shock for many women, but, she said, “we have to say what we see based on the science and the data.”*

*The National Cancer Institute (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/n/national_cancer_institute/index.html?inline=nyt-org) said Monday that it was re-evaluating its guidelines in light of the task force’s report.*

*But the American Cancer Society (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/a/american_cancer_society/index.html?inline=nyt-org) and the American College of Radiology both said they were staying with their guidelines advising annual mammograms starting at age 40.*
*The cancer society, in a statement (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MED/content/MED_2_1x_American_Cancer_Society_Responds_to_Changes_to_USPSTF_Mammography_Guidelines.asp?sitearea=MED) by Dr. Otis W. Brawley, its chief medical officer, agreed that mammography had risks as well as benefits but, he said, the society’s experts had looked at “virtually all” the task force and additional data and concluded that the benefits of annual mammograms starting at age 40 outweighed the risks.*

*Other advocacy groups, like the National Breast Cancer Coalition, Breast Cancer Action, and the National Women’s Health Network, welcomed the new guidelines.*

*“This is our opportunity to look beyond emotions,” said Fran Visco, president of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (http://www.stopbreastcancer.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=134&Itemid=62). The task force “is an independent body of experts that took an objective look at the data,” Ms. Visco said. “These are the people we should be listening to when it comes to public health messages.”*

*Some women, though, were not pleased. “I know so many people who had breast cancer and survived, and what saved their lives was early detection,” Janet Doughty, 44, of San Clemente, Calif., said in a telephone interview. She said she had had an annual mammogram since her late 30s and would not stop now.*

*The guidelines are not expected to have an immediate effect on insurance coverage but should make health plans less likely to aggressively prompt women in their 40s to have mammograms and older women to have the test annually.*

*Congress requires Medicare to pay for annual mammograms. Medicare can change its rules to pay for less frequent tests if federal officials direct it to.*

*Private insurers are required by law in every state except Utah to pay for mammograms for women in their 40s. *

*But the new guidelines are expected to alter the grading system for health plans, which are used as a marketing tool. Grades are issued by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (http://www.ncqa.org/), a private nonprofit organization, and one measure is the percentage of patients getting mammograms every one to two years starting at age 40.*
*That will change, said Margaret E. O’Kane, the group’s president, who said it would start grading plans on the number of women over 50 getting mammograms every two years.*

*The message for most women, said Dr. Karla Kerlikowske (http://cancer.ucsf.edu/people/kerlikowske_karla.php), a professor in the department of medicine, epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco (http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/organizations/u/university_of_california/index.html?inline=nyt-org), is to forgo routine mammograms if they are in their 40s. *

*Starting at age 50, Dr. Kerlikowske said, “the message is to get 10 mammograms in a lifetime, one every two years.” That way they get the most benefit and the least harm from the test. If women are healthy, she added, they might consider having mammograms every two years until age 74. *

*Nearly two-thirds of all women in their 40s had mammograms within the last two years, as did 72 percent of women age 50 to 65, according to an editorial by Dr. Kerlikowske that accompanies the report. *

*In order to formulate its guidelines, the task force used new data from mammography studies in England and Sweden and also commissioned six groups to make statistical models to analyze the aggregate data. The models were the only way to answer questions like how much extra benefit do women get if they are screened every year, said Donald A. Berry (http://www.mdanderson.org/education-and-research/departments-programs-and-labs/departments-and-divisions/division-of-quantitative-sciences/index.html), a statistician at the University of Texas (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/u/university_of_texas/index.html?inline=nyt-org) M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and head of one of the modeling groups.*

*“We said, essentially with one voice, very little,” Dr. Berry said. “So little as to make the harms of additional screening come screaming to the top.” *

*The harms are nearly cut in half when women have mammograms every other year instead of every year. But the benefits are almost unchanged.*

*The last time the task force issued guidelines for mammograms, in 2002, the report (http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/22/us/guidelines-by-us-urge-mammograms-for-women-at-40.html?scp=1&sq=thompson%20breast%20mammograms&st=cse)was announced by Tommy G. Thompson (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/t/tommy_g_thompson/index.html?inline=nyt-per), the secretary of health and human services. When the group recommended mammograms for women in their 40s, some charged the report was politically motivated. But Dr. Alfred Berg of the University of Washington (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/u/university_of_washington/index.html?inline=nyt-org), who was the task force chairman at the time, said “there was absolutely zero political influence on what the task force did.”*

*It was still a tough call to make, Dr. Berg said, adding that “we pointed out that the benefit will be quite small.” In fact, he added, even though mammograms are of greater benefit to older women, they still prevent only a small fraction of breast cancer deaths. *

*Different women will weigh the harms and benefits differently, Dr. Berg noted, but added that even for women 50 and older, “it would be perfectly rational for a woman to decide she didn’t want to do it.”*

*Researchers worry the new report will be interpreted as a political effort by the Obama administration to save money on health care costs. *

*Of course, Dr. Berry noted, if the new guidelines are followed, billions of dollars will be saved. *

*“But the money was buying something of net negative value,” he said. “This decision is a no-brainer. The economy benefits, but women are the major beneficiaries.”*

  Correction: November 19, 2009

An article on Tuesday about revised guidelines on breast cancer screening misstated a statistic from the United States Preventive Services Task Force, which released the recommendations. The task force concluded that one cancer death was prevented for every 1,339 women aged 50 to 59 who were screened for 10 years — not 50 to 74.

Hello everybody ! indoor question now can't find topics on that

I'm planning to put co2 in a sealed grow tent.

I'll have a 4x8 tent, with 2 x 600w in cooled tubes, so the hot air would just go in and go straight out of the tent for heating purposes.

I'll have a dehumidifier/AC inside the tent, to make the humidity and temperature optimal.

My question is : will the heat of the *two lamps* in the tent be enough to make the temperature raise up to 27-32 C degrees (80-90F) inside? Or will it overheat without an AC ?

What can you expect (temperature) when you put 2 lamps in a closed tent, even with cool tubes?

ACTUAL AUSTRALIAN COURT DOCKET 12659 CASE OF THE PREGNANT LADY

A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her.
She immediately moved to another seat.
This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again. The man seemed more amused.
When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing, she complained to the driver and he had the man arrested.
The case came up in court. The judge asked the man (about 20 years old) what he had to say for himself. The man replied, "Well your Honor, it was like this: When the lady got on the bus, I couldn't help but notice her condition.
She sat under a sweets sign that said, "The Double Mint Twins are coming!" and I grinned.
Then she moved and sat under a sign that said, "Logan's Liniment will reduce the swelling", and I had to smile.
Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that said, "William's Big Stick Did the Trick", and I could hardly contain myself.
BUT, your Honor, when she moved the fourth time and sat under a sign that said,
"Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident"... I just lost it."

During a good manners and etiquette class, the teacher says to her students: "If you were courting a well educated young girl from a prominent family and during a dinner for two you needed to go to the toilet, what would you say to her?"
Mike replies: Wait a minute. I'm going for a piss.
The teacher says: "That would be very rude and improper on your part."
Johnny replied: "I'm sorry I need to go to the toilet. I'll be back in a minute."
The teacher says: "That's much better but to mention the word 'toilet' during a meal, is unpleasant."
And Charlie says: "My dear, please excuse me for a moment. I have to go shake hands with a personal friend, whom, I hope, to be able to introduce to you after dinner."

The teacher passed out.

Hello peoples, I have a hydro set up, one of my timers malfunctioned a week ago that led to my plants not being fed for two days (I know I should check them everyday). Now they are looking really bad, one died. and the rest have yellow leaves and crispy, half dead leaves, everything was going so well before this. I am so disheartened by this. So I'm again seeking advice.

Thank You

*High this song was long out of print & forgotten!
Radio station CFNY back when it was "The Spirit of Radio" played it just after the subject's arrest in the UK.
Canadian Singer Bryan Plummer did this about the "Yorkshire Ripper"
& the song was "Banned" in Briton for a while till they realized it was hype over the goings on over there, but it did make for some interesting record sales!
The Yorkshire Ripper attacked 22 women & out of those killed 13.weapon of choice....Ball Pien Hammer!
Killer Peter Sutcliff was captured by fluke as he parked his car behind a factory with a hooker & passing patrolmen saw the car & thought "Oh Here WE Go Again"The car plates were from another car so both went down town & after a while the patrolman went back to see why Suttcliff was doing out of his car when police arrived & found a bag with hammers!
BUSTED!
That girl must have been a basket case when she was told who she was in the company of that day!
The voice you hear at the begining of the song is the actual tape the killer sent police!

Hey there,

I need to buy a timer for flowering. I've been doing it manually (turning the lights on and off myself) and it's becoming cumbersome. I went to the Home Depot website and typed in "Light timers" and a bunch came up. There were timers for as little as five dollars and some that were as much as thirty dollars. Would a cheaper timer be alright or should I be looking out for specific features?

Thank you,

chronic back pain and my other half is a wheelchair user, pot helps us through the day and is a life saver, unfortunately HM Government do not share the same view.

well im on my second grow of flo(harvested one last grow) this plant is from clone.i actually started with 10 femmed seeds and kept 2 moms.there seems to be a very sativa dominant and a indica dominant.the plant im going to describe is the indica dom.

this plant is about the slowest, vegging plant ive ever grow.the indica variety doesnt spread much, it is a center cola with about 8-10 other bud sites.very quick stretch in flower and a pig for calcium and magnesium.its feed schedule seems to be best at about 750ppm(including the ppm of the cal-mag)the buds are super dense and very resinous early in flower.(2ond week after buds appear)also this plant grows a very thick stock that would make it hard in a scrog so grow room height is important.

the smoke from this plant is quite good but there is better out there.the yield being very average,(similar to blueberry in taste).

the sativa dominant strain i havent yet flowered so ill keep you posted!!

The warehouse is just 25 feet from the back door of the Topanga Community Police Station.

The Jack Herer initiative to legalize marijuana receives official title and summary (http://www.examiner.com/x-14883-Santa-Cruz-County-Drug-Policy-Examiner~y2009m11d18-The-Jack-Herer-initiative-to-legalize-marijuana-receives-official-title-and-summary)

The Office of the California Attorney General released the official title and summary of the Jack Herer California Cannabis Hemp Initiative (http://www.jackherer.com/initiative.html) Wednesday. The proponent has until 19 Apr 10 to gather 433,971 valid signatures to qualify for the November 2010 ballot.

Three other initiatives are currently gathering signatures and the Regulate, Control, and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010 has announced they have at least 500,000 signatures and are confident they will have enough to qualify.
The official title is "Changes California Law to Legalize Marijuana and Release Non-Violent Marijuana Offenders from Jail." Thus, it will be easy to differentiate from the other three as it is the only one that does not contain the word "tax" as well as the only one to contain the word "jail".
The official summary is as follows:

Repeals state laws that make it a crime to possess, cultivate, transport, distribute, or use marijuana or hemp. Provides persons convicted or serving time for non-violent marijuana offenses be immediately released from prison, jail, parole, or probation, and have their convictions erased. Authorizes Legislature to adopt laws to license and tax commercial marijuana sales. Allows doctors to prescribe or recommend marijuana to patients, regardless of age. Prohibits testing for marijuana for employment or insurance purposes. Bars state from aiding enforcement of federal marijuana laws. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Savings in the several tens of millions of dollars annually to state and local governments on the costs of incarcerating and supervising certain marijuana offenders. Unknown but potentially major tax and fee revenues to state and local government related to the production and sale of marijuana products. (09-0044.)

Here we go! My first soil journal on this site for your viewing pleasure!!! I've been a big fan of Mandala genetics for the last 4 years. Great genetics, and very low maintenance, and super nutrient efficient.

So..... I started the last 3 Mandala #1 seeds I have left. Trying to run through some seed stock. This strain last time I grew it was very nice. Had an awesome dried apples smell to it when dry. Its mainly a sativa, but grows shorter like an indica. Forms a nice Christmas tree shape in flower.....

*_MANDALA #1_*
Type: sativa-indica
Genetics: S. African highland Sativa x NZ Purple Indica & North Indian Sativa
Flowering time: 55-60 days indoor; mid-end of September: outdoor/greenhouse
Yield (dry weight): 450gr/m2 indoor
Aroma: properly cured buds have a natural sweet smell like dried apples. The purple plants spread a delicious raspberry fragrance, with a touch of minty freshness.
High: an up-high that spreads in waves; euphoric; creative; can also be spacey or dreamy at the start.
Medical potential: Mandala #1 may benefit with it's anti-anxiety and anti-depressive effect.

I planted the 3 seeds back on 9/15....kinda fast forwarding, since I am starting from scratch here... here are a few pics through veg. I got a female and set to flower 12 days ago with the rest of my garden.....

Milford cop in crash that killed 2 teens faces manslaughter charges - The Connecticut Post Online (http://www.connpost.com/ci_13755269)

---Quote---
MILFORD -- The city police officer whose cruiser rammed another car in June, killing two Orange teens, has been charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of reckless driving.
Jason Anderson was released Tuesday after posting $250,000 bond and will be arraigned Nov. 24 in Derby Superior Court. He surrendered earlier in the afternoon at the State Police barracks in Bethany.
Anderson, a Milford officer for five years, was suspended following his arrest, Chief Keith Mello said. There will be an internal investigation into Anderson's behavior, the chief said, which is separate from the criminal case. The internal review could not start until the criminal investigation was complete, he said. The internal review will determine the appropriate sanctions, and will be referred to the Board of Police Commissioners, Mello said.
The double-fatal crash in the early morning hours of June 13 took place as Anderson was returning to Milford on the Boston Post Road from a mutual aid call in West Haven. The couple, Dave Servin and Ashlie Krakowski, both 19, were killed when their Mazda was broadsided by Anderson's cruiser.
The families of the two teens could not be reached for comment, but Bart Halloran, the lawyer representing the Servin and Krakowski families, said they are "grateful that the state police did such a fair and thorough investigation.''
Halloran said the families have filed a notice of intent to sue, but have not gone
further because state police had possession of all of the evidence. "We have our own accident reconstruction experts, but we've been waiting for the investigation to conclude before going further," he said.
Witnesses told police that Anderson was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred at the intersection of Route 1 and Dogwood Road in Orange.
There were also reports that Anderson was drag racing with another officer as they traveled back to Milford.
Lt. J. Paul Vance, the state police spokesman, said no further arrests in the case are expected.
Anderson had returned to administrative duty in late summer, but was not medically cleared to resume patrols. He suffered severe chest injuries in the crash.
Hugh Keefe, Anderson's lawyer, said Tuesday he had not yet seen the arrest warrant affidavit. "This is an extremely tragic event for everyone involved, including Jason Anderson's wife and his brother, who is also a highly regarded Milford police officer.
"This case screams out for a jury to tell us whether criminal conduct was involved,'' Keefe said. "It was a horrible accident, but it is a quantum leap to go from an accident to criminal conduct.''
The first Orange police officer to arrive at the scene reported that Anderson walked from his damaged car to another Milford cruiser, where he "hunched over" onto its trunk from his injuries.
Krakowski was thrown from her 2008 Mazda, and Servin was trapped inside the vehicle, which had been pushed 40 feet onto the grass at the edge of a store's parking lot.
Servin was pronounced dead at the scene and Krakowski, an emergency medical technician and a nursing student, died a short time later at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven.
Orange Chief Robert Gagne had asked state police to take over the investigation because it involved another police department.
Krakowski and Servin are buried next to each other in Orange Center Cemetery, their graves marked with stuffed animals and flowers.

If so, how long before I should add the nutrients back into the water? This is a stealth hydro grow planning on LST soon. Thankswall.gif

Here are some pics of the leaves from my sick girls.
White Rhino
600hps
FF soil-ph 6.5
tap h20-sits out min24hrs-adjusted ph 6.5
4th week bloom
Earth juice nutes

all plants are showing signs of deficiency, and I cant figure out why. Im pretty sure its not phosphorus(as I feed them regularly), maybe calcium or mag. It effects the plants equally which means its mobile nute right? Any help is much appreciated

These pics are the stages the leaves go through. first necrotic patches appear then yellowing with necrotic patches-eventual death

When I had my 1st grow I just winged it .No info from the net nor books nor anything! all survived because of the chemicals
I used ozimajic grow for the rooting & bugfoot for the main pans but all those grow & bloom formulas are just cost.......all work the same!
I just changed the solution weekly & made a cover for the pans & a hole saw for the baskets & placed a simple fan to blow over the plants...Half of the hype over growing is just that hype!
The timers did all the work & 1/2" to1" of growth per day was outstanding!
You can fool the grow side when the plants get 15" or bigger to put them right away into Bloom!
Now you don't have to wait as long for the Buds!
keep taking clones & cut them at a steep angle so the cuttings are long..& straight away into a nursary solution!
Any time a branch is severed it will cause a sucking motion within the plant so any air can kill it quick!
No its not rocket sience but there are too many websites that try the our way or else sell!
You can buy hose bulkhead fittings & recirculate the solution from buckets to the main pump or just do the solution staticly & change it every week .I also added 2 long fish tank airstones at opposite corners in the solution .This helps as o2 gets injected into the solution!

My Next Thread, Let me Know What You Think!

Okay first off thanks Jangel for being so patient and helping me out so much, and tanks everyone else who's posted. I'm 8 weeks into my first crop with 3 beautiful ladies just into flowering and doing rather well. I started growing a cheap budgeted crop with the idea in mind that if it went well I would invest in a garden and grow a couple plants for myself so that I'd never have to pay a street vender again. Well here I am and I think this is something I can handle. I need some of the more seasoned horticulturists to lend their thoughts and help me get this perfect before I start investing serious money in this. Thanks in advance!

THE GOAL: I don't want to grow volume but for maximum potential from my plants. Only about 5 ounces of premium bud each harvest would be perfect! I want to grow for quality not quantity (I know this has a lot to do with the strain.

Alright, the grow area itself is going to be a closet that measures 27"(d)x42"(w)x84"9(t). I'm going to put up a 2x4" frame up on the inside of the closet for two reasons. To add stability (the walls are paper thin), and to add a better means to control environment. In this 2x4' skeleton I'm going to use Pink Insulation given to me by a friend, and then I'm going to top it with 1/4" plywood. Once the frame is finished I'm going to cover all for walls with black and white visquene and overlap the door with plastic and use velcro or zipper to make a door from the visqueen plastic. The purpose of this is two fold. This will keep the closet completely light proof and therefore appearing to be a normal closet. And it should give me an almost completely enclosed environment for optimal precise control of humidity, temperature, and co2 levels and for fragrance concerns. On top of the Plastic I'm going to put this FLIR Resistant Material (http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=BI130&AC=1) in order for perfect heat and light reflection.

*I know this may be a extensive lengths but I want not only the utmost in security and secrecy, I also want perfect environmental control. Give me your thoughts on the structure thus far. Anything obviously wrong with it? *

For the overall exhaust, I have a rather simple plan really. In the floor of the closet I am going to put an air conditioning vent above a baffle box which will have a 10" Flange that will be connected by this Ducting (http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AFADI10X25&eq=&Tp=) to a identical air conditioning vent and adjacent room. The ducting will be run bellow the house. If I find that I'm not getting adequate fresh air intake or you all deem necessary I will add this Duct Fan (http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AEFSC102&eq=&Tp=) to the ducting to increase air flow. For the exhaust I'll be starting with this Filter (http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AOCDBDFS05&eq=&Tp=). I'll be attaching that filter directly to this Inline Fan (http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=AEFEP08&eq=&Tp=)

*Does this system seem to have adequate enough air flow to be able to control my temps, humidity, and CO2 (I plan on supplementing C02) adjusting the fans' speeds via a dimmer switch? Do you think I could afford to run a 600w HPS in this space since it's vented directly out of the room? Would using insulated ducting make any difference? *

From here this thread will become something of a journal. I'll post up pics each week of the room as I construct it and get some advice as I go. Thanks to anyone who is willing to offer their opinion. which will be mounted to the Ceiling. From here if I can manage I'll the ducting through this reflector (I'll Find a nice Bulb and Ballast separately) and then down through the floor, if I can't I'm going to just run it down straight through the floor under the center of the house.
