It is a helpful thing to do if you are looking for a mother and don't have one yet. If you are using seeds or going to try a new strain your next grow its fine to flower everything and see who is male and female
also
you could take the cuttings and cross label them from the mature plants....grow out the mature plants (which will flower faster and heavier than the cutting) and then use the appropriat cuttings as moms or your next flowering plants
that is how I would probably do it..
I mostly always start from seeds for three reasons
I don't want a constant grow - My hyper-vigelance goes away if I am not growing all the time -
I like to try different strains
Fresh from seed with time inbetween grows lessens the chance of spider mites and other icky things (like winter does for outside annuals)
