Default The filter can be used two ways

as a cartridge for a cannister, which you do not have and as a stand alone type of filter. the flange would be to attach a hose

Quickest and easiest no mess. Use self tapping #8 tech screws. Easy to install and easy to remove. if leakage is an issue you can fab a gasket from rubber sheet or even cardboard or form a gasket silicon stuff.. Put the flat of the flange atop the filter and screw it together.
