Actually you can use sugar. BUT....Molasses is more beneficial to your plant because it also contains almost all the trace minerals that your plant requires.

So, if you arent feeding all the macro/micro nutrients to your plant and supplementing with just sugar.....You'll still end up with a deficiency.

If you arent feeding all the macro/micros but use molasses to supplement feeding.....Your plants will get what it's missing from your molasses.

So in short yes you can use sugar.....But molasses is beneficial not just the soil....but the plant directly.
